Had the opportunity to go out for a short run this morning between dropping my youngest at school and the arrival of the electrician at 9:30. A very cold and steady 8km, with a fast finish. Alarmingly, the pace I (just) held for the last 400m is what I need to do for a lot longer to achieve a 17:00 parkrun. And it was slightly downhill today. I'll do some proper interval sessions when the mornings brighten and warm up, but at least this was a few miles underfoot and a decent marker.

Jo's got her next parkrun tomorrow. The boys and I are doing finish tokens - we've joked about sneaking her the '001' token!

Well, she got the 008 token, which wasn’t too bad! 22:22, 41s better than her previous best on our local course (mixed terrain, not especially quick).

I piddled round my local and my son did two 10min efforts with a jog in-between. I I overtook him and then he came back hard and over took me!

I tootled out for the first time since last Saturday when I did Fulham Palace parkrun. In the afternoon I went to our granddaughter's 6th birthday party, 2 hours of overexcited kids running hither and thither. A little later in the afternoon the first twinges of what was to be Norovirus made themselves evident. Still, I needed to shed a few pounds anyway, every cloud...,

As part of Jo's training program, she runs a flat-out mile on the fourth week of each cycle. Her times thus far are
2/9/24 7:12
15/10/24 6:48
2/12/24 6:39
27/1/25 6:30
12/3/25 6:20

She's entered the 10k at the Uttoxeter Festival of Running in early May, which I think she's going to absolutely smash 😍

Currently do local parkrun slowly plus wkly run with local club. Doing local 20 mile run next wkend, most I've ever done is 15miles. Jokingly said I do a marathon before I'm 60, I've got till middle of July to complete. Best 5k sub 25. Best Half Marathon is 1.48. I've recently been slowing my pace down to do the 20 miler, hoping sub 4. Here's hoping. PS 5k PB is a few yrs old now so nearer 26 mins.

Did the Transgrancanaria ultra 3 weeks ago. Classic route, so 82 miles, 20,000 feet. Incredible experience, a really wonderful event. Tough to cope with the heat of the day coming off a winter of training in UK temperatures.

If I did it again I'd probably consider the Advanced route instead, still about 50 miles but would involve a lot less time in the dark and still take in all the best bits of the route.

You will get round fine and sub 4 is certainly doable. The longer runs are great for learning to run on tired legs so I would focus on them, especially if they're a bit lumpy. Parkrun is good for speed work so everything is in place 👍

Im no runner. But my 23 year old; previously un-sporty ! Son has just started running a few months ago. Did a 1 hour 31 minutes in his first 1/2 marathon a few weeks ago. 41 mins for his first 10k race a week or two before that. And yesterday broke the 20 minute barrier in only his 12th park run (***He’s 11th in the finishers).

Not sure he’s even run enough times / events to know what he really enjoys most or is suited to yet. But it’s great he’s enjoying it 😁

Sounds like he's a natural 👍. Among my club mates there were a few who could be doing next to no training and within a couple of weeks of getting back into it they would leave me in the dust...

Feeling really inspired by my clubmates’ times at the Stafford Half today!

Yesterday was the tenth anniversary of my last half marathon, when I set my 1:23 PB. I’ve entered the Uttoxeter Half in seven weeks’ time, which is a really tough course but there’s a chance I could still get under 1:30 if I can train well in the meantime.
