I know who wonder! Thanks to the beeb. Their sports chap blurted it out without any warning. At least Mike Bushel had the decency to warn people about the qualifying. I don't mind too much but I think they are just being petty!

Well, provided he doesn't get disqualified from the championship in the remaining races (Schmacher managed it once) Ze Dutchman will be world champion as he finished aheadmof Norris. He knew that's all he had to do and seemed to concentrate on doing that safely rather than going hell for leather.

A good weekend for Tsunoda. He really needed that. On the other hand the big boys team apparently have concerns about his mental resilience under sustained pressure so itsmprobably not going to do him any good.

Once again Perez is not really pulling his weight. RBR really need him bagging big points, especially if Max is down, for their constructors’ championship. I saw an apt headline recently along the lines “what does Perez have to do to get fired?”. RBR have a ruthless history of ditching drivers with far less underperformance than Checo.

He brings a lot of money , must be quite a sum, and he is no threat to Max . Keep Max happy to keep Max

But then weigh the sponsorship income against the lost income from the missing championship points and his lack of attractiveness to other sponsors and then financial argument looks week.

Word is the board will get to decide at the end of the season, thus leaving Red Bull Spice and Mad Marko in the clear if they drop a bollock with the decision.

yeah the financial argument by itself looks weak and by all logical expectations he should have had his marching papers much earlier than now and old Cyclops is usually the first to say "off with his head " It will be very interesting to hear what Newey will say ( if indeed he says anything ) about the goings on behind closed doors in Red Bull in 2024 when ever he writes his memoirs . I remember Newey was disgusted when he heard Damon Hill was being dumped by Williams back in the day . He wasn't consulted and it came as a shock to him . Papa Perez took a nasty swipe at Ralf Schumacher recently and Checo had to negate it as best he could. Coincidental that both RB drivers have paters who shoot their mouths off

Lower down the WCC will pay dividends in wind tunnel time

"Perez has many backers

The new sponsor's name is not mentioned, but the company is said to bring in quite a lot of money. Perez has partnerships with the likes of Claro, Telcel and Infinitum, all from the group of billionaire and businessman Carlos Slim and Interprotección backing him. They are said to - already - take care of Perez's entire salary, plus collectively transfer around $30 million annually to Red Bull.

MARCA: 'Those who consider him written off will have to wait a little longer, as he has a contract through 2025. Unless something changes at the last minute (which is not impossible at Red Bull), it looks like he is going to honour that contract,' it concluded.

If this were to happen, Yuki Tsunoda would stay at Visa Cash App RB for the 2025 season. His teammate has not yet been confirmed, but it seems like Liam Lawson will be the favourite after he replaced Daniel Ricciardo in the final part of the current season. Both drivers are hoping for the Red Bull seat, but they do not have as many sponsors behind them. Choosing one of them could, therefore, 'cost' Christian Horner and Helmut Marko tens of millions of euros without counting the salary pay for Perez.

who really knows ? I think MARCA is Spanish ? correct me if I'm wrong

Which basically translates as: because the sponsors are paying Checo, there's more money in our own pot to put into the car.

So at the end of the day, it's more likely to be a financial decision rather than one based on driver talent. The concept of the pay driver is, quite frankly, nothing new.

True, but pay-to-drive has normally been found at the mid to lower tier teams. Checo is tying up a potentially competitive, championship winning seat. There always seems to be some excuse, some promise of improvement but it rarely comes. Teams like Mercedes, Ferrari and McLaren are fielding two competitive drivers but RBR are now suffering as a consequence of only having one.

Not necessarily.

Nakajima springs to mind - bankrolled by Honda and came with strings attached. Honda tried to grease him into the second Williams seat after Piquet left for Lotus.

Unlike Marko and Red Bull, who have quite happily taken the money (and any strings that are attached), Frank Williams took umbrage, and it cost them funding AND the Honda engines. Nakajima ended up staying at Lotus.
