OMG! There i was in the showers at the gym at 9pm when all the lights went out! I managed to get dressed and head for the door only to find it locked. As i tried to open it the burglar alarm went off. I wandered round the building shouting hello!!,but no one was in apart from me. I had to open a fire exit door. I couldn't lock it so i phoned 101. When they eventually answered i was bombarded with loads of stupid questions. They said they'd get in touch with someone to come out and sort it. As i left the alarm was going off giving an ear piercing sound. Wouldn't you think some pillock would think to check the men's changing area before locking up for the night?!

Edit... The front door of the building is now unlocked. I just hope no one breaks in before they manage to lock it!!
What is the name of the gym?
I've just been down to check. The fire exit door is now locked, thank goodness! I suppose i'll be on their cctv, but at the end of the day it wasn't my fault i was locked in. I even looked at the cctv cameras as if to say "Look,i'm not here to nick anything as i'm showing my face so you can identify me.. Some pillock has locked me in and all i'm after is a way out"!

Why were you in the shower at the time you know they close? Out of respect to the staff I make sure I am off of the premises well before closing time. I would say you were being very inconsiderate.

Presumably you will let the centre manager know that this happened
Oh yes,i'll be letting him/her know about this. I mentioned it to one of the neighbours last night. He said in any shop, pub, office building etc it's up to the staff to make sure that no one is left in the place. Not only for fire danger reasons, but also in case someone decides to hide then ransack the place. I could understand if i'd been quiet, but as the main lights went out i shouted there and then "There's still someone in here"!!. I thought they'd just put the lights out as a kind of 'please get a move on request'. Not only that but on going in there last night i was told that the swimming pool was closed for a month to six weeks as a pipe had burst. I was disappointed as i wanted to equal or even better my last week's fifty lengths. After i'd done my three hours in the gym i went to the changing rooms, passing the pool on the way to find it was open! It's from today it's closed, not yesterday i found out off one of the swimmers! I don't want to complain to whoever runs the place as i don't want to drop anybody in it,but i suppose i'll have to mention it as they'll be wondering why the fire door had been opened and why the alarm went off. I suppose if i was a 'where there's blame there's a claim' type, i could get legal advise about my my 'traumatic experience',but knowing how these places struggle to stay open with government cutbacks i wouldn't like to claim off them. Maybe i could get free use of the sauna/steam room for a month as way of recompense.

Legal advice, seriously

Just talk to them. All the gyms I’ve used make an announcement 15 mins before closing. Suggest that to them. Don’t be a drama queen about it

I'll mention it when i go there today. All the people i've spoken to about it so far say they should check all the building for stragglers before assuming it's empty.

Considering the various medical conditions and the descriptions of your health that you've given over the years I think the people at your gym should be given a medal if you're doing 50 lengths. In fact, it sounds like the pool in "Cocoon" and I think you should tell us all where it is.

This is 50 times 22 meter lengths we're talking about, not 100 meter lengths. Is 0.68 of a mile in around 30 minutes good,i don't know?
