If you’re not aching, you’re not gaining much benefit, beyond being out and about. You’re wrong about muscles remaining strong too: don’t use them, they lose strength.
Hopefully there’s a bright coach at the gym. If you pin your ears back and listen to them, and take some coaching, you may get somewhere.
