Central Heating - on yet?

Heating still off. Hard to turn it on when the boiler has been broken for a few weeks. Broke before a couple of holidays and when we got back it took a long time to get anyone in to price it up. Might have it on Friday evening. Apparently the plumber will have the new boiler and high efficiency radiators in by end of Friday. We'll then put the heating on, just to test it not because b we need it just yet, honest.

I haven't had my heating on yet as I've just moved house, and have 'advanced' programmable storage heaters on Economy 7. I need to get the manager of the complex to show me how to programme the things, or look up their manuals on-line. From what a couple of my new neighbours say - both of them 'fresh air fiends' like me - I'll only need them to partially 'fill' unless we get a persistently long cold spell. My long-standing habit of assiduously checking the weather forecast for the next day will at last be of real, significant use!
And my new flat has much better bike storage.

I've just been putting double glazing film and net curtains on my French window.

It's freezing in here mid winter, and it's obvious the FW is the main culprit because my left side, facing it, feels like someone's holding ice packs against it. I'm not sure how much insulation value there is in nets, but anything's welcome.

No sooner had I finished than it was 31C in here, which is the other problem with the FW, it's like a sauna in here during summer, and even on sunny winter days as well.

And have you investigated why?
The new system has a roomstat, and the old one didn't. I now have to heat the hall & landing whether I want to or not just to stop the roomstat turning the boiler off, and with it the heat supply to all the living rooms.

How about some secondary glazing?

It's switched to timed - on for an hour from 5:30am, then on in the afternoon until 7pm. That said, thermostat is set at 17, and the radiators were cool at 7am, so it's not 'on' unless the house temp drops. All upstairs radiators are off, other than the bathroom.

Not on yet but if I was not going away for a week in October it would be on. Only a short while of putting up with the cold so not worth it as it takes about 4 days to get the house up to a reasonable and stable temperature.
I seem to feel cold more nowadays as today I was wearing a fleece jacket indoors but the plumber appeared wearing a t shirt with no jacket.
There is a mix of clothing locally with some well wrapped up as I am but others going around outside with shorts and t shirts.

Heating still off, French doors and kitchen doors into the garden still open.

No central heating here yet. As a soft southerner I'm still wearing shorts and T shirts. Today's quick ten mile bike ride was done in shorts and a short sleeved top.
MrsP is starting to make noises about testing the heating in case it turns cold suddenly, I'm holding out as long as possible.

No heating on yet but do have a question for the brains on here. My towels are staying damp now the weather is turning.
My towel rad is fed only from the main central heating system, if I was to turn all the radiators right down and put the boiler on for an hour would this run at minimal cost?
As my logic is saying the hot water would bypass all the radiators and flow back to the boiler so would run on less gas than having the heating on as normal is this correct?

Yes, the radiators and hot water are on two separate circuits, at least with our traditional " Y" plan installation, Our hot water circuit goes through the towel rail in the bathroom. However, once the water is up to temperature the boiler will switch off.

MrsP is making some serious noises about putting the heating on, the temperature has dropped a couple of degrees.
I might have to fire it up as a test to make sure it's working and bleed the radiators as required.
