Who's talking about shivering?
No-one that I can see!
Those of us who aren't planning on putting the heating on yet are making remarks about our homes being warm enough and/or at our preferred temperature.
Why would anyone put their heating on if they're comfortable and not feeling any need for it?

Well numbnuts above was saying he isn't going to be putting it on this winter no matter what. So I think he will be shivering, unlesss we have a very mild winter.

Like others we have bedroom window open. There are also things called blanket throws and jumpers if you’re a little cool. Amazing number of friends with heating blasting away and they are in t shirts.

What annoys me is when the very people who are lazing about in short-sleeved t-shirts with the CH running at full blast, expect me to make sympathetic noises when they complain about their fuel bill. I did once tell someone that if they heated their entire five-bedroomed house to a temperature resembling that of Riyadh in midsummer, they had only themselves to blame if they needed an oil sheikh's income to pay the bill ...

never gets below 16c even on the coldest days.

I don't know about you, but I certainly wouldn't be shivering at 16 dehgrees. I'd be putting a cardigan on at 14 deg, and, if I was tired, would probably want one on at 16 deg, but shivering? No way! The cardigans for that temperature wouldn't even be wool - just some cheap synthetic.

Having a well insulated house works in both summer and winter. In summer if it’s hot, keeping windows and doors shut the house will stay much cooler than outside. In winter, the house won’t get too cold, even if it’s freezing outside.

lol , each to their own but 14c is pretty cool. I’d be more worried about damp building up !

When we were kids we didn’t have central heating or double glazing. You’d heat the one room, the living room, and the rest of house would be cold, in winter. Same as my Nannas house where the coal fire also heated the hot water. Beds had decent blankets to snuggle under.

I wouldn't either, but he was only talking about the last two winters, and the "coldest days" have not been that cold for the last two years. They have been two very mild winters. If this one isn't as mild, the flat will be getting below 16C if he doesn't put heating on.

And current recommendations are to keep your living areas heated to between 18 and 21C, so for many people 16 would be cold enough to be shivering.

Firstly I live in the sunny south, my flat has cavity wall insulation and double glazing. Bedroom and lounge face south so gets the sun all day, OK the kitchen and bathroom face north and can get a wee bit colder than the other two rooms.
As I have all ready stated all ready done two winters and didn't feel the cold and I'm not wrapped up like a Michelin man either, most of the time just wearing a fleece onesie and slippers
I don't mind the cold during the winter I go beach fishing and can get down to -7c that is the coldest I have fished in and felt OK.
I think a lot of us forget how cold it was during our childhood with just one fire in the lounge and ice on the inside of our bedroom windows, we now have gone soft.
PS today my flat is at 22c with out any heating

Yes, but the last two winters have been pretty mild.

We only had about half a dozen nights last winter when the outside temperature dropped below freezing here. I think there was just one morning when I didn't take the bike for my commute because there was too much risk of ice (We have hybrid working, I only go into the office two days a week).

Not surprising, given the outside temperature is about 17-18C. I expect ours is similar.

Leaving the house at 7:00AM today, I put the arm warmers on this morning, and 10 minutes later was thinking I shouldn't have bothered. I never quite got warm enough to stop and take them off, but it was very close. It is silly warm for October.

We can't rely on it being another mild winter though, even though it is much warmer than usual at the moment.

This morning's windy frost provoked the heating into coming on for an hour early morning here, then it warmed up so I'm in t shirt and shorts today 🙄 It seems the weather forecast was a bit pessimistic so it's hard to avoid that one by changing the controller rules. At least it was cheap overnight rate!
