The Ka used the really old Ford engine for a long time. They rust to bits is the major issue. MrsF's 99 Yaris is still going strong, if a bit tatty as it's not been looked after since we sold it many years ago.
Ford replaced that idea with the Peugeot unit sometimes they would still have Peugeot badges on when delivered to the dealer to sell new

I've always fancied an original Ka but the rust issue does put me off. I really gave thought to trying to find a sound, well-cared Ka when I was shopping for a car earlier in the year but bought a Yaris instead.

I already have a 205 to weld back together. I don't need another project and insurance companies here try to make it difficult or very expensive to insure old cars nowadays.

Not true,
My 1997 vehicle costs less than £150 to insurance

When I was car shopping some years ago, the only cars a certain forecourt had in my budget was a Ka and a Fiesta. The salesperson asked if I had children, I said yes, so he said "I'd definetly buy the Fiesta instead!". He reckoned they were unsafe compared to everything else of the same era

re: hood shadow from rooftop light bar

trying out a modest rooftop light bar. big improvement for night vision off road. mounted the GoPro on the hood & the lighter on the roof. but I don't care for the shadow from the hood of the car. thinking I might make some extensions for the mounts so that the light bar is higher, which might reduce the shadow

anybody else do similar?
hood shadow.png

sorry no pics of the light bar, it started to pour while I was testing. but here's a pic from Amazon
Screen Shot 2023-10-19 at 5.52.54 AM.png

vehicle = 2014 Jeep Cherokee
light bar = Nilight 13.5" magnet mount w/ coiled cigarette lighter plug

another issue, is that the cord is barely long enough & doesn't really need to be coiled, kind of annoying actually. will be trying a cpl diff. extensions so I can run the wire out a back window

fyi - not going to use it a lot, just a little Fall night fishing, to get to or from the beach. just plain headlights don't really offer good vision, off-road

My recent attempts to revive a poorly maintained Insignia CDTi may have been in vain. Message from the owner yesterday that the car is making a funny sound. No engine light, but when questioned when it happened it was on Friday-driving in the torrential rain :cursing:

I haven't seen the car, but told her to open the air box and check for water ingress. Only ray of hope, she tells me it still has decent power. 🙏

Back when I had my pickup I had an enormous 30 inch light bar on it. If people failed to dip their headlights, well, more fool them.

I'm sure their last mortal thought as they headed for the ditch was that WWIII had started and they were witnessing the detonation of first Chinese nukes.

:becool:that sounds like a crazy good time :dance: :okay:

would love to keep these on the roof & eliminate the shadow, perhaps w/ other lights just over my license plate, but for right now, I bought some suctions cups, weird little buggers, & an accessory extension cord & did a test last night with the lightbar on the hood, with the camera in front. there's no shadow from the camera. the view is unobstructed & there is no shadow from the vehicle, I think, maybe in the lower corners. I can't tell it might just be vignetting or fall-off at the end of the beam pattern. regardless I think I'll be OK with this, for a test run on the trails to the beaches next weekend. only gonna put this on after dark cuz it looks so stupid. but boy adding lighting can be addicting. gotta stop myself from fantasizing about building a light tower on the roof

The MK2 shared it's underpinnings with the Fiat 500, so had a better upbringing.

Our Ka is nearly eleven years old now we wouldn’t swap it for the world. In the city it can squeeze thro most small gaps and park in the tiniest spot. It’s going to be the last car we own because of our age. It has that fantastic Fiat 1.2 motor which is sutch an easy engine to work on if the need be.

Just installing a better stereo in my Mazda 2. Most of it bought off ebay fairly cheap except the front component speakers. Fitted them yesterday and soundproofed the doors, it was a total pain, but they are way better than what was in it. JBL GTO 609C 6.5" component speakers. Sound good even off the headunit. The headunit is a single din Pioneer with bluetooth that I paid £26 delivered a couple of years ago and is really good, has front USB, 2 pre-outs for front and subwoofer. The Pioneer amp paid £34 delivered off ebay, looks nearly new, this is going to power the JBL component speakers and going under drivers seat. The passenger side underseat sub, took a punt off Ebay, an ancient Alpine, cost £14 delivered. It is really well made, really heavy. If it doesn't work or is crap the wiring will be in-place to fit a new one. Hopefully will all go back together again.
