Bikes will be on the back of the car, both electric so don't fancy lifting them! Plus I already have a nice Thule rear carrier to use.

The estate is preferred rather than an SUV as like the idea of a longer boot space rather than flattening seats. That said I've added Qashqai to my limited SUV list (others are Peugeot 3008 and Citroen C5 Aircross).

Love our Qashqai - they aren't big really, just a bit higher which is great for getting in and out of as you get 'older'. The petrol engines are the best. zero trouble with our 2012 version - had it since 2015/6

Do you really need a rear camera Vs sensors?

I guess your milage will rule out many rep mobiles which might do 30k year but less wear and tear than a city/ speed hump diva!

Also be wary of coastal cars as they rust! DAMHIK!

EBay is pretty good for cars
I might browse e bay but I'd only look at dealer cars and if I did find one I'd go direct to them rather than buy through e bay.

I'm matching the second drivers personal car otherwise yes I'd be happy with sensors. Some nice looking cars with high mileage came up but I'm not willing to take the risk on them.

And ones from Scotland and North East. My van has come from the South West and it's spotless underneath.

Motorpoint have several Superbs and Octavia estates around the country.
I usually use Motorpoint, my last 2 cars have come from them, pretty much they've nailed the price down to beat most other dealers...

But a 60k car won't be any less reliable than a 50k one but £1k cheaper?

I'm not a mechanic so not qualified to answer that, 50k has been my traditional limit so I'm sticking to that.

Thanks to all for the help, after may weeks (months) of looking and being disapointed I've got something that is:
  • Estate
  • Auto
  • Rear Camera
  • <50k miles
I am now officially a Peugeot Owner (again) - got a 308 SW (19 Reg) ^_^

Untitled.png

I found the car through Autotrader, and bought through an authorised dealer. I liked I was able to pay a £99 refundable deposit as I'd seen a few of these cars but they seemed to sell quite quickly. Its the Puretech (Tech) model so its got some toys in it I've never had before, and it has a full service history. I did decide (your opinion may differ!) to buy an extended warranty but as its my first car for about 2 years I'm out of touch with ownership and decided to safeguard myself a little.

It may be folly to talk about the ones that got away but I didn't find a Skoda Octavia Estate in the spec/price I wanted, a couple of other models like Ford Mondeo Estate were just too old and high mileage now. A rarer model I came accross and liked but nothing local came up - Renault Megane Sport Tourer.

Done a little over 150 miles in it so far, boot swallowed a lot of gear which looked promising for upcoming camping (even if todays weather does not!). So quite excited right now, and must resist the urge to stand in the window drooling.
