Team Time Trial Etiquette

1. Double Check the ZRL teams section of the website for your teams Start Delay

2. Do not Leave the Pen until your start time.

[Start a stopwatch when the Banner Drops and go at your +start delay]

3. IF your team is CAUGHT ‘You must Give way / Yield.

a. Drop the teams pace to allow the passing team to move through.

b. Allow the main body of the passing team to make a gap – at least 2 seconds.

c. DO NOT jump onto the rear of the passing team 'Draft' – Let them go!

4. If you are the PASSING TEAM

a. If possible, use the Companion App to warn of your approach

b. Gather your team together before attempting to pass – 3 seconds gap behind. Ensure your team have the energy to make this pass before attempting.

c. SPRINT through

d. It is YOUR responsibility to keep up the pace that allowed you to catch. If your team do not have the energy, do not attempt the pass. Do Not attempt to pass on a downhill section of the course.

5. If you are a dropped rider, finish your race but DO NOT interfere with any other team.

6. Use Common Sense in the final stage of the route. Most teams will not be willing to give ground if they are into their final sprint to the finish line.

7. Foul or Abusive text messages on the Companion App will not be tolerated in any WTRL event. Evidence will ALWAYS be passed on to ZWIFT and we reserve the right to disqualify riders / teams from the event. Please remember that not every rider on Zwift speaks English. DO NOT get frustrated. Sort out your problems without losing your temper.

Please note: There is no requirement for HRM in any category of a Community TTT event.

Your team MUST finish with at least 4 riders to receive a finish time, no exceptions.

To be honest I’m not sure about this statement. Yeah maintain the pace that allowed you to catch the other team. But sprint through? I think personally, and obv this is just my opinion, that the team being overtaken should yield and that’s it.
If the the approaching team is also expected to sprint. Not only are they being punished excessively in having to put in that extra effort. But also the team being overtaken can sit on them and then argue the toss about whether or not they were trying hard enough to overtake. Maybe I’m nit picking...

That’s good to know about the hrm. Takes the stress out if you get unlucky with a pairing fail.

I tend to agree with you, but I think it's a good idea for the passing team to at least make a bit of a push as they overtake, just to overcome the sticky draft problems. "Sprint" is probably overstating it but it's probably just their way of getting that message across in simple terms (for us simple people!)

I'm glad to say I think all our passes in ZRL TTTs recently gave been smooth and incident-free. I also think the most problematic time for passing is on a descent - and it's all very well them saying don't overtake on a descent, but there is the small matter of there not being brakes on zwift - and often the opposite of brakes due to super-tuck! - so sometimes that's easier said than done!

Like some here I have done a fair few TTT’s and it’s not enough for the other team to yield, you have to up the power and push through. I say this having having been caught in the sticky 😬😁

Speaking of TTTs, any volunteers to setup the CycleChat Crusher between the three teams at the end of the season?

I think we spoke about this last season but it didn’t happen, but would he fun to try and make it work at the end of this season?

I think that’s the thing. And by this point we’ve all done a few of these things. I was nit picking I know that... It’s important to be compact as a group. And make sure you raise the power enough where you don’t get caught in the sticky draft. But the wording is off really. Sprinting is OTT. And the more emphasis there is on the team being overtaken to yield the better I think anyway.

To be honest though it’s not normally a problem is it. Generally more people are pretty good.

On a side note I can’t imagine it working on rgt as well as it does on zwift. Unless they’ve improved it in the last week or so. When you approach a group you get this auto brake thing unless you’re going a fair bit faster than them.

Would #23 get to start at 6:30 while I assume #68 would start at 8pm? CCC start when they like ? :cuppa:

Wendy (my good lady) has also joined Zwift now as well as RGT.

She has started doing workouts and I'm putting some together for her as I can't find quite what I want for her. Is there a way I can automatically send the .ZWO files to her Zwift Account, or does she have to download them and copy them into her Zwift Workout directory on her Mac?

This may have been posted before - but I found a site that makes creating Zwift Workouts even easier than on Zwift itself. Much better especially for the Text Events.

I've attached my ATV remote to an old out-front garmin mount I've got - mostly in the hope it will make quickly selecting powerups a bit easier. My only concern is that I drip sweat all over it and inadvertently do a u-turn or something mid-race so I'm seriously considering covering it in clingfilm too!

Why don’t you use companion app on the phone? Just seems much easier to me.

That happened to me 4 minutes up a 6 minute climb when I was going full effort.

So annoying!

I do use companion app while riding - but I find selecting the powerup quickly in mid-sprint or something on a touchscreen really fiddly (sometimes with sweaty hands!). I'm trying to make that easier. In theory I'm thinking pressing an actual physical button on the remote will be better, as long as the remote is conveniently located. That's the plan anyway
