Flying back from India yesterday, my film choices on the small screen in front of me, were either a million Bollywood films, some modern stuff, or some B&W classics. I plumped for Some Like It Hot which I haven't seen for nigh on 45 years.

Boy, did I laugh! Great acting by Tony Curtis and Jack Lemmon, and Marilyn Monroe was a much better actress than I seem to remember.

10/10

Great film !

Favourite line: Tony Curtis trying to pass himself off as posh and wealthy by talking about playing polo asked by MM if it's dangerous "yes, we had two horses drowned last week"

I sit back and think...that was weird, really weird. Without spoiling, a story of team that enter a zone that appeared to find it creates mutation, sometimes beautiful, sometimes creating abominations, the footage/scenery created is spectacular .. just weird, loved it.

Put me in mind of Robin Williams 'What Dreams May Come'

CHIPs (2017) - saw this pop up on the Sky planner and ignored it to start with as it seemed reasonable to assume it would be bobbins, much like the rehash CHiPs '99

However, unable to find anything else to watch I gave it a try and it's surprisingly not bad. I was also surprised to see Michael Pena in a starring role.
Don't get me wrong, it's no Lethal Weapon, but for a remake loosely based around what was a (rose tinted glasses aside) fairly average kids TV show, it was watchable and downright funny in places. The three star (out of 5) rating on IMDB is probably about right.
That said, don't go watching it with the kids in a retro "I used to watch this when I was your age" style - it's a 15 certificate with good reason and lots of the humour is very near the knuckle.

I watched that last night as well. Really good film with an ending that makes you wonder long after.

I was sad though, that outside of America it's not getting a cinema release, Netflix only. I really hope films like this and Bladerunner 2049 will continue to be made, despite low audience numbers.

I watched Annihilation tonight. Some fantastic concepts in it - horrible and beautiful. Lots of unanswered questions, but not in an unpleasant way. And its got Natalie Portman (:notworthy::wub: ;)) in it.

We have just watched The Importance of Being Earnest, the new version. It was trying to be too clever and ended up with distracting visuals, and sight gags that just didn't work. The stage version we saw last year was much better.

Brooklyn.

A superb film. I like Colm Toibin but haven't actually read any of his books. Saoirse Ronan is incredible in the lead role, and as the son of Irish emigrants (admittedly, just to London, not to Brooklyn) it really struck a note with me. It was wonderfully observed, understated in places, immaculately acted and really quite sad. Sometimes a film can just grab you, and this one really did.
