Chopper.

Eric Bana's breakthrough role as the murderous Australian loon. For those that don't know the character, Mark Brandon "Chopper" Read was an Australian criminal who had some (by his standards) scruples - he didn't like drug dealers, and is reckoned to have murdered as many as 20 of them, although he was convicted of none. In prison he chopped his own ears off because he fancied a cushy stay on a psychiatric ward.

Read died recently of hepatitis related kidney failure. He turned down a transplant, claiming there were far more worthy recipients than himself.

Anyway, Bana porked out for the role and really looked the part. The screenplay is violent and bloody, but does emphasise the faintly ridiculous and tragic way Read chose to live his life.

And who can for get the classic line, "I used to be someone in this town - now I can't even get f*****g arrested!"?

8/10. Strangely compelling viewing.

If you enjoyed that, check out Bronson.

I never thought that anyone could replace Linda Carter as Wonder Woman, but after watching the latest version I'm not so sure now, I'm not normally a fan of the new superhero films but I'll give this one 7/10.

Mrs Stephec seemed to think I spent a bit too much time drooling at the screen, she did come out with a contender for this year's no shoot Sherlock award half way through though, 'it's a bit far fetched isn't it?'

Blade Runner 2049 on DVD- I LOVED it, saw it twice in cinema. Nothing can compare to the original though. I studied it countless times for GCSE Media Studies. I think the music really lends to the experience as well - typical 70's/80's synth wave!

I love when some people disregard the impact of music in films. It's like if you played the soundtrack seperately from the film - and the film without the background music. You would totally get it. My favourite all time movie soundtrack has to be Interstellar. The Pipe Organ element which recurs through is just perfect and ironic really.

I celebrated International Woman's Day by watching that... seemed appropriate. I mostly enjoyed it but felt the end was shoot.

Predator 2 - 5/10

All the good work done by Danny Glover is undone by Paxton, Busey and Alonso hamming their performances up more than an eager am dram debutante. Could be great and has its moments but gets nowhere near the heights of Predator.

Murder on the Orient Express, the new one with Kenneth Brannagh, Judi Dench et al.

Have to say I was thoroughly underwhelmed by it. None of the acting was up to much (and I absolutely love Judy Dench), Brannagh was awful as Poirot, with his varying accent, and the train was nothing like the real thing. I know it's not a film about the train but it is the main setting so I'd expected a bit of attention to detail. All the exterior shots were so obviously CGI that it was like watching a computer game.
4/10

Baby Driver - I thought it was awesome, loved the soundtrack. Focus - Hocus Pocus, Golden Earring - Radar Love, great film too, great fun. 9/10

Three Billboards, Outside Ebbing, Missouri - Brilliant film, just superb, about a hopeless sad situation, 9/10

Atomic Blonde - The first half was a bit dull, the second half, oh my god, if you like fit women totally beating the sh** out of everything this is the film for you. I thought it was brilliant, the fight scenes were amazing. Also if you like eighties Eastern block cars, you'll like it too, loads of Lada's (original 70's round headlight Fiat 124 clone, facelifted rectangle headlight - Riva, 4WD Niva), Polski Fiat's, rear engine "proper" Skoda's, even saw a Simca (I believe they were French). I thought it was great fun, and not as cheesy as this genre of film usually is. 8/10

Patton.

George C. Scott is one of my all time favourite actors, and he really does the character justice. I didn't know that Patton was the one allied General that the Nazzies really feared and respected.

Well shot, lavish sets, props and vehicles, has aged beautifully.

9/10.

Moneyball - can't think why I'd never heard of it. Brilliant portrayal of the triumph of the Oakland Athletics baseball team in 2002 or thereabouts. Their Leicester City story, told through a razor-sharp script, superb acting, tight, lean direction and excellent cinematography. I know absolutely nothing about baseball, but I was transfixed from start to finish. 9/10.

Dangerous Beauty - bilge in (and occasionally out of) pretty frocks. Amazingly gets a 7.3 on IMdB. I might go to six if I was feeling benign. Maybe 5.6. 4.1?

if you like that and have Netflix, then i suggest you watch Altered Carbon very cyberpunk and Blade Runner esque.

Very very good. You know when a film has got you, you're suddenly aware your heart is pumping a bit....
