Surprised Matt Damon seems to run people up the wrong way. I first came across him in Good Will Hunting, which I really enjoyed, and was even more impressed when I found out (thru' Family Guy) that he wrote it too.
So did I... but i found it a durgeful yawnfest of a film, yet again Robin Williams resurrects his role from Dead Poets Society and Matt Daman cast himself as the least convincing kid from the wrong side of the tracks in the entire history of hollywood. When i discovered that the pathetic lead actor also wrote it, i thought, "That explains it." I think the only thing i detest more than Matt Damon is dolphin paraphernalia.

Oblivion

Good, classic sci Fi of the 60s/70s ilk shot in modern, amazeballs-vision.

Do I need to get the spray plaster out?
I attempted to watch the first of the Hobbit films again... and gave up again... I shall be attempting it again today and as I shall be ironing whilst doing it... I might not miss bits and wonder which bit of the book they are at....

I've read the hobbit to my kids recently, first read it when I was eight - and it's a lot more childish than I had remembered, and put a different slant on the movie IMO.

It is one of my favourite tolkein books and my copy is well loved and well read, I read it to the small people last year I am wondering if this is why I am not getting on with it, had no problem with lord of the rings which is also another well read trilogy

I had more and more problems with LotR as I watched it and will happily rant about how Jackson completely missed the whole point of the story with how he ended the Fellowship (Aragorn would never have allowed Frodo to leave alone if he knew he was on the boats. "I will fight by your side wherever you go. Bye!" Gah!) I've not even tried the Hobbit.

My advice would be to leave it. If LOTR hacked you off, The Hobbit could well finish you off.

I nearly had an aneurysm at the end of the second part and only finished the trilogy to conduct an experiment - could I read the book quicker than I could watch the films. The answer is yes, by some margin.

Star Trek II (The New One)

I wasn't overly enamoured with the reboot, but willing to suspend (further) disbelief and give it a whirl. Into Darkness has a lot of things going for it, but ultimately it fails - on two fronts.

I watch it and see all the references to the first version and previous films, there is too much back knowledge required for my son to understand what the hell is going on - so who is this film for?

I'm all for remakes, but this series isn't doing it. The various series had alternate universe episodes where everyone was evil instead of good. This movie line has it that everyone is different. Woo.

I don't get it.

It's just a bunch of flashing lights for two hours.

Blue Jasmine...I was bored, tired after an early start Sunday at work, thought I'd have a nap, put a film on and expected to doze off to it. No chance, thoroughly enjoyed it.
Cate Blanchett plays a wealthy socialite, snooty, up herself, who loses everything when her cheating, lying husband gets caught by the FBI because of illegal business practices. Phenomenal acting IMO, as she descends into self denial, disbelief at her fall, bordering on lunacy at times.
Not normally my kind of film but...excellent.
