Gattaca, after an enthusiastic review somewhere upthread. More than a bit underwhelmed - 6/10 maybe? And I think that's me being polite.

Thanks but no thanks. I think I'll pass.
Deliver us from evil starring eric banna. Horror. Lots of blood and gore. Oh and I made Mr WD and my granddaughter jump when I screeched at something..

7/10.

Oblivion. Some very cleverly done effects, and a nice bit of sideboob.

Random, but related question: had you seen it at the cinema? I did and don't think it would translate very well to a smaller screen. That could be because I got bored being battered around the head with the re-birth metaphors though.

tv series rather.than movies , but watched 1 and a half episodes of "the game" but gave up. It had some good points, but Tinker Taylor it ain't.

Also W1A - the sequel to 2012. Enjoyable and funny even if it doesn't quite reach the pants-wetting hilarity of the first one, which to be fair was one of the funnyest things ever so hard to top. Will certainly watch the rest.

But on movies proper - going to the pictures to see Powell & Pressburger's masterpiece "Tales of Hoffman" - which I love. It's great being able to see classic movies in a real cinema - a new tarted up print is promised.

edit: have now seen the above Tales of Hoffman. Superb in a proper cinema. Whilst musically it may be a notch below the Great Composers, the playing was superb, and visually it's a joy. And Robert Helpman (a ballet dancer / actor who might be best known as the Child Catcher in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang - who gave me nightmares) naturally enough steals the show.

I've just started watching Deadwood for the first time. I don't know why its taken me so long, I just never fancied it. I think it is just that it is a Western that put me off, I guess I like this so much as it appears to be very realistic, which most Western films are not.

Deadwood is brilliant. Or as they might say in Deadwood, f**king brilliant.

My favourite of the "Fast and Furious" films I've seen up to now (they are; "2 Fast, 2 Furious", "Tokyo Drift" and "Fast and Furious").

The leering car show bit is in the middle rather than at the beginning, but is mercifully short, and the action set pieces reach a level of glorious improbability that's really pretty fun. I think the highlight is the chase after the heist, in which a van sized safe (dragged by two cars) is used like a giant conker to smash into chasing cars. It's also the film (out of these four) with the biggest emphasis (perhaps overly much?) on the gang as family theme that Filmspotting's assessment of the series identified.

A bit like an episode of "The A-Team" given a multi-million dollar budget, in many ways. I've been surprised by how much I like the series - I'll be getting 6 & 7 on DVD from Lovefilm when I can, I think.

Just finished watching The Cabin In The Woods. Brilliant. Best horror I've seen since, well since I can't remember.

It's funny, irreverent, satirical, yet very dark in places.
Very clever and original plot, and great acting, especially from Richard Jenkins.

Didn't see 4 and 5, but watched 6 which was fun. 1 was watchable, 2 OK, 3 ish. Silly stuff in the first lot. 6 was great fun. Looking forward to seeing 7. Need for Speed is great also.
