To be fair the films are "based on" the book. The Hobbit is a kids book. It was written to entertain his family and intended to be short, funny and a bit silly.
Jackson's interpretation is laughably wide of the mark.

To can't see what the problem is with the Tolkein stuff. I read the books when I was a kid and I've seen the films as an adult. They're both ok but I wouldn't want to see/read them again. The Narnia stuff was better anyway.
Magnolia. With Tom Cruise, a whirlwind of unconnected, pointless (IMO) turmoil in different peoples lives, flitting from one to another.
I didnt get it...pointless, gave up 3/4 of the way through. ?.utter crap IMO.
Tom Cruise is excellent in Magnolia... give a tosspot of an actor the role of a complete tosspot and you can't go wrong.Magnolia needs patience and more than one viewing I reckon. Like you I gave up first time around but gave it another go. Well worth the effort once it gets under your skin. And it proves that Tom Cruise is actually a decent actor when he's given something interesting to work with.
I watched Paranorman last night.
8/10
A stop motion nod to more horror movies than you can shake a stick at. Funny, touching and at times quite dark. Dressed up as a kids film, but like so many has a lot aimed at an older audience.
I've just started watching Deadwood for the first time. I don't know why its taken me so long, I just never fancied it. I think it is just that it is a Western that put me off, I guess I like this so much as it appears to be very realistic, which most Western films are not.
I keep meaning to watch Paranorman... had it for months but it's stuck in a cue of about 60 other movies I'm yet to watch.
