I loved it back in the day, but on my second viewing I realised that Danny is the one provoking the 'bullies' from the outset and instead of teaching him karate, Mr Miyagi should have told him to stop being such a little ****

Fun Fact: the winning kick at the tournament would have got Danny disqualified in real life.

The following films get worse and worse... but then we got Cobra Kai, which is excellent.

Quite liked number 3 as kids. Terry Silver was a great pantomime villain. Plus we always loved this scene...

Too young. You'd really have to be a 70's kid (at latest) to fully appreciate a film made in 1984. Imo, unless it happens to timeless for whatever reason. Karate Kid was definitely of it's time.
I was 8 at the time and loved it, although I can’t remember if I saw it in the cinema. If it wasn’t for the 80’s nostalgia, I’m not sure I’d enjoy it as a first watch today.

In a similar mid 80’s martial arts poop vein, The last Dragon, although a pile of poop is also one of the greatest films ever made.

Last week, One Fine Morning, a French drama starring Lea Seydoux (still on iPlayer, highly recommended by critics and this viewer) and, he Hateful Eight (not Quentin's best, but still cracking). Today, lots of death and destruction: Hard Boiled and The Terminator.

iPlayer has it for the next 3 months, so plenty of time to catch it. Myself included.

The Monkey - 9/10

The inevitability of death is nothing new, but there's a sadistic streak here as the monkey in question takes control of the scythe from the person who thinks they have the power. Sharp, inventive and intelligent for a comedy horror which you'd expect from Oz Perkins who's skill as a director stops the outrageous gore from being too silly.

Moonraker

Another oft lamented Bond film that is a lot more fun and enjoyable if you turn your brain off (to be fair often required with any Bond) and enjoy the shenanigans. It's huge fun, Jaws returns, Bond goes to space, there's lasers, a mad evil leader and some cracking one liners. I have to mention as well Lois Chiles's delivery of some lines is so relaxed compared to their situation, as Bond dangles 100s of feet off a cable car she lackadaisically advises him to 'pull yourself up' as if advising him he has something in his teeth. Wonderful stuff.

It may well be THE best of the "turn your brain off" Bonds. (and Lois Chiles was really good!).

{You forgot to mention Jaws finding love - in orbit I think - with a woman about one tenth of his size. So cute!]

Oh yeah Lois Chiles is excellent, its just a probably unintentional humour to how she delivers many of her lines when they are in peril. She plays Dr Goodhead  as a very cool sarcastic character I think.

Jaws was a fan request apparently, lots of people wanted him to turn good so they brough him back and he was. Richard Kiel was a great actor and I'm glad they gave him more to to do.

Moonraker will always have a place in my heart; as -based on my age- it's the first Bond movie I saw at the flicks.
Was taken by my Grandmother; can't recall why the parents didn't fulfil their responsibilities/obligations, but there you go.
Subsequent viewings, as an adult, reveal the myriad of flaws it has.
Flaws aside, I can still watch it when it (inevitably) rocks up on ITV4.

I caught 15 mins of it on ITV4 yesterday, then immediately watched it all later lol.
