I have never been badly overweight, a few kilos here and there, but I'm going to say something very un PC now. Why is it that when you see a grossly overweight person they are always eating. Gregg's sausage rolls, crisps and any other high fat, high sugar foods. Their children tend to be overweight as well, not just puppy fat but well over. Is that not a form of child abuse?
With all the information about, why are obesity rate still going up. It is quite easy to eat healthily, and with a little thought not expensive. It is just laziness on the part of a section of the population.
Medical conditions can be corrected, and now with the rush for the weight loss drugs, many people will take the drug but carry on stuffing themselves with rubbish.

I’ve been binge watching some of the influencers on Youtube, many of them medical doctors who are keen on keto type diets and have had great success putting type 2 diabetes into remission. I can see why. It’s early days, but touch wood, this seems to have massively reduced my hunger and sweet tooth.

We have become a nation of carb and sugar addicts who not only eat 3 meals per day but seem to constantly snack in between too so our insulin levels never get a chance to drop.

Each to their own , of course, but a low-carb diet is the way to go, imo.

Not being preachy or suggesting that we are 100% paragons of virtue here but we have friends & family who eat huge carb' loaded meals and are in appalling physical shape. We even know some who eat 3 cooked meals per day, every day!

Unless you are putting in absolutely masses of exercise and I mean serious athlete levels, I struggle to see how it can be burnt off.

Me, especially, well I am a natural piggy eater (poor family as a kid, cheap carby food fills you up, etc) and habits stick over the years. But for 4 decades now (before Keto was a thing) I have restricted my carb intake. Cereals; never, spuds; 2 or 3 portions of chips per year as coastal walk treats, rice; never, biscuits; a very occasional treat, cake; my birthday and xmas only, bread; never, choc; 85% dark only (a daily small Aldi bar) and anything sold as a low-fat dessert in pots; never, they are usually crammed full of carbs.

That's enough preaching from a happily reformed 🐖...

Weather crap, damp and windy.

Late night, getting out of bed shortly, supposed to be out on bike today but motivation iffy at the moment. If not, the turbo & treadmill will have to do.

Enjoy your day, all!

I do agree with you but some of the reasons for poor diet are probably NCAP fodder.

Having being born poor back in the 50's high carb meals (main course & puddings) were cheap, filling and gave you a sugar-fuelled feeling of satisfaction. Still the case for many, although the home cooking has often been replaced by junk food takeaways, etc.

When I parked my car last night it was raining.
I inadvertently turned the ignition off when the wipers were mid-sweep!
Now I'll have to turn the ignition on for them to finish the sequence. This will cause my folded in mirrors to deploy, hence I will have to fold them back in again..
And I thought it was going to be a quiet morning!

Just back from the 10k which I found tough. An interesting route out and back along the canal towpath with a couple of steep inclines. There were several distances from Ultra Marathon to 5k, with each distance having colour coded numbers and setting off at different times. Now I had originally entered the half marathon, but dropped down to 10k due to circumstances. I thought that I had amended my entry but apparently not. This must have led to some consternation amongst the faster runners as they headed to the turn around point only to see a 70 odd year old bloke heading back towards the finish 😁
When I crossed the line I squared it with the organisers so I haven't really set a new course record🤣

Sadly the food industry deliberately churn out ultra processed crap with the perfect mix of carbs and fat that people can’t resist. It’s called The Bliss Point I think. Having suffered from binge eating most of my life, I truly believe that it’s similar to drug addiction and I have finally come to my senses and realised this. Better late than never. I’ve even stopped eating what I thought was healthy porridge as a few hours later I just wanted more carbs.

A plate containing mainly protein and fat with only a very small amount of low carb veg and I can feel satisfied for hours.

Barnet,
Looks like I am being discharged from hospital today. I've been signed off by the physio, she is happy that I can get to the toilet and in and out of bed unaided. The doctor is happy that the wound is not weeping and starting to heal up.
I have exercises to do to get the knee bending past 90⁰, and the real physio work starts in two weeks time.
Happy days.

Just back from a very pleasant coffee in town and a gentle 12 mile loop.

We need to start a campaign against all the ultra processed junk that we are being told is food!

It was so nice to get out after being cooped up indoors yesterday. 8 miles brisk walk and popped into the Co-op on the way home for some fruit and veg. My ketogenic diet is still going well. I have restricted my carbs to lower carb fruits and veg like berries, cabbage, cauliflower and broccoli with some salad too. Steak and mushrooms for breakfast. I’ve dropped a couple of pounds too.
Steak and mushroom for breakfast??
Are you having porridge for lunch then ?

That's great to hear👍 it's really important to persist with the exercises, the harder you work now, the greater the range of movement and facility you will have.

Regarding overweight no let's be honest here fat kids, it's almost inevitable you see a fat kid and then their parents and all will be fat.
Conclusion? Fat parents have fat kids. If parents are fat, unfit etc then chances are kids will be also. Fit and healthy parents tend to encourage similar in children. There will of course be exceptions to the rule but walk around a shopping centre, airport etc and it is obvious.

You are correct. Carb craving is very much an addiction.
