My best friend is a life long Utd supporter, had a season ticket for many years.
He messaged me last night to say he thinks Liverpool will batter them.

5 - 0 at West Ham and 0 - 2 to Newcastle suggests your friend is right. I see Amorim is talking about relegation as a possibility. Two more losses for Utd and a win each for Everton, Palace and Wolves and it will start to be a battle for Utd.

I see Rooney has been sacked (yet again). Twice in one year suggests he may not be cut out for management .
He certainly doesn't interview very well.

It's surprising how a big game against fierce rivals can spark a performance that has previously been lacking. If I were Liverpool I would be taking nothing for granted.

I doubt if Amorim sees relegation as a real possibility. He's looking for a reason he can claim a degree of success should they finish around mid table, which IMO is quite likely.

I said exactly that to my friend. Form often goes out of the window in these games.
However, I do believe we will have too much for them.

The obvious in stats can get overlooked. Notts even though they got promoted had the worse defence in the National League once the amount of time the opposition had on the ball was taken into account. Hence the way they tumbled to mid table last season keepong the same defence in League 2.

I notice in the football results nowadays that the team I have known for decades as Notts County appear to be just referred to as Notts and you have done similar Mike.

Has "County" been dropped from the name of the club?

No still Notts County but normally abbreviated to Notts while the younger offspring on the otherside of the river (formed by a Notts player so Notts had someone local to play) is referred to as Forest. National press referring to them as Notts Forest is wholly incorrect as the abbreviation of Nottingham is Nottm.
Notts County was the trading name only for many years. Notts.FC (note the full stop) was the original name but to avoid confusion County was added to fixture lists from the 1880s. In 1890 the FA ageed a registered name change to Notts. incorporated FC.
It was not untill 2003 that Notts County existed as a registered name.

Great point for Rovers today. Draws with Sunderland and Leeds over Christmas mean losing at home to Hull was big missed opportunity. Now we need Hull to do the business against Boro.

And then on to the small matter of the east Lancashire derby. Rovers (5/6th) v Burnley (2nd/3rd) at Ewood on Saturday. Sold out. I've seen a lot of derby games, this one is the biggest of all of those.

I wonder if County is still the favoured term locally, I know as a teenager in the 70s in Nottingham, it was County, without exception.
Forest or County, the only descriptors needed locally.
