Surely it's 100% of their goals when the ball is in the opponents half, what with that being where the goalmouth is. Maybe he is referring to a team where 40% of their goals are own goals?

I think it is quite reasonable to describe a goal as being scored from where the ball was hit.

But no team in history has scored anywhere near 40% of their goals with a kick from their own half, so his statement still makes no sense.

It's the cult of the foreign manager. Everyone thinks they are ahead of our own in terms of tactical nous and team selection, but with very few exceptions they are no better at either, and often hampered by a lack of understanding as to how cut throat competitive the EPL is.

Watch the Spanish football shown on ITV4 every month - a team from the relegation zone plays Barcelona and tries to out pass them with the predictable result. Over here the lower half side will be in your face, tackling like they are in a war zone and showing no respect at all. There are far more "Against the odds" winners in this country than anywhere else.

It's a shock to the system for Carlos Manager which can take years to get used to - except he has been sacked after eighteen months and replaced by another who will be just as green.

Managers who played in the PL probably get it a bit more or those who are just really good managers and have the players they want (doesn't seem to have been the case and Man U or Chelsea for many a year...probably because many of their recent managers haven't lasted very long!)

Your Christmas Quiz from the Guardian:

"With the top-tier currently containing only five northern clubs, a levelling-up project seems necessary. The good news is that Sheffield United, Leeds, Burnley, Sunderland, Blackburn and Middlesbrough are jostling to make that a springtime reality."

My Non League adventure has taken me to The Bucks Head today, home of AFC Telford. This has been a visit nearly two years in the making as it's the home patch of my fiancée but every time we've been down they've been away or kick off times haven't worked out.

Big game today against Halesowen who sit 4 points above The Mighty Bucks in the league.

Someone counted the times each team had on the ball and found that in percentage terrms Notts conceded more goals than any other team once they were not in possession of the ball.

I had a look at this seasons table.and while not that much info can be extracted, their goal difference is pretty typical of teams around them. While they're conceeding goals, they're obviously scoring more as well. I'm guessing their defence is ragged perhaps ?

Changed the defence but they keep on trying to play the possession game out from goal and across the defence but not always successfully.
