The lake was an opencast site

Plus it’s adjacent to (what is taken to be) the Worlds first nature reserve; Waterton Park

Weathered & slightly re-carved BM on St Botolph's church, Church Brampton, on today's breezy bimble.

I do not..

Civil war royalist fortifications ran along what is now the road. There were mount for cannon, upper and lower on the hill, hence the name.

That and the Jesus army used to touch people up in the old cinema.
