Winding Wheel Memorial
Wakefield Road/A645
Featherstone
Wakefield
Ackton Hall Colliery wasn't far to the rear of this structure, & the swimming baths were close by too (just to the left)

It's not far from the (ex) Jubilee Hotel; https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/583872

I spent many unhappy Thursday afternoons at Lister baths in Featherstone as a kid during compulsory swimming (floundering in my case) lessons.

Woodhouse Junior School (that’s how l’d name it)
Wakefield Road
Normanton
Wakefield

Whilst looking for new office premises a few years ago, wife & business partner looked at this, during a previous ‘For Sale’
(owned by local Council at time)

They were thinking of buying it outright at the time
It had a few sitting tenants (one of whom we know), but needed quite extensive roof repairs (from memory)
The income from rent would have paid for repairs, & a bit over, as it would have been a cash purchase
However, they decided that the palaver of multiple tenants was too much, so ended up buying where they are now

Head-Masters house? (as was)

Wednesday 6th

Mexboro Arms
WaterGate (junction with Park Road/HunGate/NewMarket Lane)
Methley
Leeds

it's been in this state for a number of years now, after a fire, in which the landlady (of possibly 30+ years?*) was seriously injured, & subsequently died
There are attached 'cottages', that are part of the property, but owned by other tenants
I'd been told it was for sale, so went there deliberately today

It still has the 'Stones Bitter' sign

A friend used to live a few doors up Watergate from the Mexborough Arms. It's a shame to see it boarded up.

Someone l worked with, until he retired, lives in a nearby barn conversion

Two Brickworks chimneys in sight
(neither are in business anymore, but a 3rd brickworks, out of sight still is - as far as I know)
Walking over Goosehill Common
Goosehill
(between Wakefield & Normanton)

I can see the right-hand chimney from home, through the kitchen window

We were walking along the public footpath, from this 'bridge', in the north-easterly direction; https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/366401
This is the l/h chimney, as seen above, adjacent to the railway; https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/7122245
The r/h chimney by Wakefield Road/A655, there's a lot more tree growth around it now; https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/366363

Whilst walking Doris
NewLands Lane
Normanton
Wakefield

NewLands Hall was straight ahead, beyond the building roof that can be seen
There was a gatehouse (Park Lodge) roughly where the patch of brambles are, with the rubble from it still under them all

Just beyond the brambles, looking over the gate; https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/4157670

After a walk past the ponds, & up the hill, to the abandoned Goosehill Junction, where trains headed towards South Yorkshire (& the original destination of Derby), we came to the only existing lodge out of 3

The original gate-pillars are still there (possibly original gates too?)

If you 'travel' slightly north-west, you'll come to Park Lodge, near the Hall; https://maps.nls.uk/geo/explore/#zoom=16.1&lat=53.69150&lon=-1.44169&layers=168&b=ESRIWorld&o=100
