yep... Mark Knopfler... i was never a fan of Dire Straights apart from a small handful of their songs, I just love the way he plays.

When people ask who my guitar hero is I say Ralph McTell. He isn't really because there are far better players who's music I'm in awe of... but listening to someone like Ralph McTell makes me want to pick up a guitar. His playing is easy on the ear yet challenging on the neck (for me) and its the sort of the music that can sit in the background whilst your friends chat amongst themselves.

Or even Robben Ford ,John Mayer, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Gary Moore, Jeff Healey, how on earth he played in the way he did, and blind too beggars belief, the list could go on and on,

Steve Vai is a spectacular player but his own music doesn't tickle me in the least.

Listen to his first album 'Flexable, pretty rare now but I've had a copy since the 80's

Always loved the way Ralph McTell played the old rags. IMHO he does them as well as anyone - much smoother than many in fact.

Went for the S model, as McCartney had the 4001S and I want to actually play it rather than just look at it.
