Trying to learn the chords for Level 42's "It's Over" (not really a guitar song, but a good lesson in harmony). There are some terrible transcriptions out there with chords that are easy to play and sound completely wrong. I needed to look up fingerings for a third of the actual chords. Cm7flat5, FFS!

it's staggering the amount of tablature that's just wrong... and more staggering, a lot of it is found in published TAB books dating from the last century

I can't read tab. It just swims before my eyes, possibly something to do with my dyslexia.

Bizarrely proper music notation causes no such problem and I can read it well enough. Not fluent, but given time I usually suss it.

I got one of these a couple of weeks back, chopped in my Sonic Strat at PMT in Leeds, it truly is a belter, perfect for bringing out the inner Mark Knopfler & Hank Marvin, I'm very pleased with it

Today, I shall mainly be demonstrating my ability to knock over one guitar whilst picking up another one, in the confines of a small stage at a local pub gig. The band haven't planned the setlists out very well: I seem to be changing from guitar to bass and back again about every second song!
How did it go?

In general terms, the gig went well. It was in a small pub, which was being visited by a group from another micro pub about ten miles away. They were well lubricated, and pretty loud when we got there. They (mercifully) left at half time, to pubcrawl around the town, which allowed us to hear ourselves think in the second half, and the audience seemed to enjoy it.
As predicted, I did manage to knock a guitar over. I put an unsightly dent in the top of my Yamaha transacoustic, but no harm done, other than to the aesthetics. It's a Yamaha, and it's built like a tank.....

Anyway, they want us back in ten weeks time. But on Saturday, the landlord mentioned that he is an Iron Maiden fan, so we may have to find a way of turning one of their songs into a gentler format!

An oompah version of New strange world would work.

Today's guitar lesson involved working out the chords and lead guitar part for this piece of 80s obscurity from Frankie Goes To Hollywood, an instrumental homage to Pink Floyd on which I am almost certain none of the band members played. For what it's worth, the lead part has two natural harmonics, some heavy whammy bar use, a lot of compression and probably chorus effects. We couldn't work out what the exact key or mode is as there is a lot of chord substitution, but it's basically E minor.
