Hi Steve,

Good news on the hospital, and you are back on the bike. For some reason the BKool Leagues are not working all that well, so we are recording this months Nations Cup Qualifier CG Here. I have added your ride for now.

@simonsch . Your early Classic is likely to be stuck on an early firmware as anything that is no ANT + FEC compatible won't get any further upgrades which may result in these power anomalies or wear in the moving parts is affecting the resistance generated. .

Yes, it is stuck on non-FEC firmware. I had an email discussion with them, where they said it should update firmware from a PC, but not from a Mac (which is what I have been using). I have a cheap gamer-PC on order to run the turbo (mostly so I can leave set up for my wife to use when I have my laptop elsewhere) so should be able to test that soon. I have to admit that part of the motivation in fixing that is to try out Zwift, which many people in my cycling club are on.

My subjective impression is that my trainer is slightly too hard on the flat, and slightly too easy on steep gradients. Hard to really tell without ground truth. The only one of the big climbs I have done in real life is Ventoux, and its hard to tell if the additional perceived difficulty in real life was those damned flies. That is quite a long ride on the turbo though...

If you have a really early Classic and you have not sent it back for a hardware change, either under warranty or at your cost then I do not think it will update.
I say this because I had the same issue and because it was over a year old they wanted more than half of the cost of the turbo to update it.
I had an early Pro with the same problem as well.
Ended up buying a new turbo as the older firmware behaves so differently to the newer ones.

I bought it 2nd-hand off eBay in Jan 2014, so I guess that marks it as pretty early. It has the USB socket. I guess I'll find out. If not, too bad - not worth paying to get it update, better as you say to get a new turbo. I think in that case I'll just be happy running BKool for a while, and get a newer one eventually.

I do like the video playback feature of BKool, which makes their software worth it to me. I like exploring new routes, and its not the same if its just computer-generated imagery loosely based on the map.
