I do like the video playback feature of BKool, which makes their software worth it to me. I like exploring new routes, and its not the same if its just computer-generated imagery loosely based on the map.
If that is the case take a look at www.bigringvr.com ... Great routes in great quality ... although I do like to use my Fly12 to record a local route to redo in Winter ... I can do that in BRVR as well as BKOOL, with much less messing about with Fit Files and Video editing

Thanks for the tip - looks interesting. The video looks to be better quality, which will make a difference now that I have installed a 42" tv in front of the bike. Unfortunately, it looks like it also requires the ANT+FE-C firmware upgrade, just like Zwift!

Welcome we will look out for a British Passport before the Nation's Cup, or you could just change your profile in BKool so you look like a ;

Well, I was born in London...but I fear the passport or profile is not the biggest issue. Judging by the performances I note from not a few here I'd be trailing far behind. Did the second stage of the winter league the other day. Either I have the wrong pair of socks or Christmas was not kind to my form. I did slightly better on stage 3 today...but only slightly...I think maybe my kids may have poured glue into bkool machinery.

Yes all trainers need to be FE-C (Fitness Equipment - Controllable) for whichever simulator you are using, I know that using a speed and cadence sensor with a DUMB (Non FE-C) trainer means the simulators can calculate watts ... some sims (Zwift for example) have a 'profile' that can be applied to non FE-C trainers to take account of the non change in resistance when going uphill to apply speed 'corrections' to compensate.

I bought it 2nd-hand off eBay in Jan 2014, so I guess that marks it as pretty early. It has the USB socket. I guess I'll find out. If not, too bad - not worth paying to get it update, better as you say to get a new turbo. I think in that case I'll just be happy running BKool for a while, and get a newer one eventually.

The really early Classics had a USB B connector like and old Printer Cable.
The later ones had a USB A.
The later ones can, I think, be updated bu the older ones need a new PCB

Well, obviously the BKool does all of that, its just that back then they did it with their own proprietary protocol.

Feeling rough today, think I have a bit of lurgy coming on. Knocking my asthma about, not great today, so can't risk joining the ride at 5. Will have to just live with one attempt at stage 1

On the other hand, I will be attempting my first post-lurgy ride.

I intend to join at 5, but strictly in 'plod-mode' as I try to decongest my sinuses.

Of course, in Froome style, I will have taken certain permitted breathing aids, in this case Covonia linctus and Otravine nasal spray, but I expect the result will be less a boost of my normal watts and more of a spraying of excess snot around the inside of my garage! xx(xx(

Thankfully, as this is virtual racing you won't have to share this charming experience with me!
