I didn't mind being tail end charlie, I took 34 seconds off my PR :wahhey:... bloody hurt, though.

It didn't help that I was left stranded on the line again and lost 7 seconds, as I had to pedal again and then let it stop to get it to register the fact that I had stopped pedalling to allow me to start ... what a faff

By the time I got going Adam had disappeared. I caught Bill for a short while but knew I wouldn't keep him behind me for long, so settled in for the grind, trying to keep my own ghost behind me!

Here's a couple of good longer climbs-
Somport
Portalet
- this looks a tough one?!
Puerto Mijares
Colle del Moncenisio
- only for the real die hards I think, but even if you stop half way you can save your attempt im guessing 2h,30 for this?
Col de la Madeleine
Col du Galibier

Then there are the shorter ones that you could do 2 in one session?

SSSSSHHHhhhhhhh. I think your Moncenisio is a different one from the one programmed in for Mountain Goats League 2.
The new league one is just a little bit harder than usual stages so no one should worry about it. Just get on and do it.

The new league is as follows over the next 5 weeks:

1/ 3D Alpe d Huez
2/ Colle delle finestre
3/ Colle del Moncenisio
4/ Col de la Bonette
5/ Los Olmos-Alto Filabres

This should appear on Monday.
Unfortunately, I tried to input the Japanese ride but the league search engine couldn't find it.

With regards to Goats League! Whatever folks, I'm in. I can't help noticing that after my sabbatical from my Turbo, for two weeks, my form has started off better than where I left off, but is now quietly receding back to where I was! Normally I would expect to start slightly behind my previous form, and then climb back to where I left off!?!?

Adam. If you do a climb longer than half an hour, you're going straight to Pro1 the way your performance is looking at the moment.
Alpe d'Huez should do it.

Here's the messed up start ... you can clearly see that I have stopped pedalling before 17 seconds to go and everything has stopped by 7 seconds to go, but it still shows "to start, stop pedalling" right down to 3 seconds to go, when I panic and pedal a little to get another chance at it detecting me stopping pedalling!

I went out today to video the Cat 3 climb just south of our house. With some help from a mate, we managed to get the video mounted on the front grill of my car, and drove up the 1.3 mile climb as slow as we could (still too fast). Luckily no-one came up behind us until right at the end.

Got a great video, unfortunately the climb faces due south and the bright sunny January day meant the sun was right in the middle of the video, so not really good enough to use.

As we drove back down, we passed three cyclist struggling up, it was blooming cold today so I was impressed with their dedication.

I'll try again tomorrow, and will probably video Crowcombe as well, as it would be a good, short, stupidly steep climb for after a Velodrome session!

And there was me thinking you were just playing with me towards the end Adam. I was flat out all the way too. A very familiar pattern between me and Geoff though.

I have an idea for next week if anyone is up for it:

The first Goats 2 stage is 3d Alpe d'Huez so we could all try to meet there for some fun and games, either mid week or weekend, and of course it'll be open for doing any time as usual during the weeks duration.

Tuesday would be good for me, or the weekend. Busy Wednesday and got Thursday League, so Friday is possible but will probably need a rest.

Eeeks! Thanks for organising that (I think), should help with my climbing training!

Nothing is showing in the scheduled tab for the league, but the rides have shown up in my Schedules sessions. I think 32.7 km may be beyond me, I wonder what time you get if you give up half way through?

I see that if you don't complete a stage you get the time of the slowest completed ride plus 5%, but that means that if only the fastest riders do it, the rest of us only get a 5% penalty, but if one poor sole slogs up they give everyone else their time +5%!

Looking forward to Alpe d'Huez ...

Here's me trying to stay in Bill's slipstream and failing miserably ...

See how my guy is always pedalling ridiculously fast? I think its about twice the cadence that I'm actually pedalling.

That was some power you were making at the start Geoff. No wonder you still passed me after your bad start. probably burned you out a bit though.

It wasn't ideal, that's for sure. I might report the problem to Bkool and send them a link to the video.

I've not really got a handle on Anaerobic Work Capacity (or W') yet, but I don't think I've ever had very much! Consequently, I think I'm best to stick to my FTP as much as I can.

I might look at some training strategies for improving AWC.

Cheers,

Geoff
