Tales from today's commute....

three weeks of being a lazy bar steward have come to an end back on the bike. Mild out in fingerless gloves. After three weeks off a bit of a slog into work. The traffic gods kind for once no nobbers, a couple of close passes despite not riding at full speed this morning according to strava and average speed of 14.6 which I certainly dont believe. Nice to be out and nice for it not to be a minus for a change.

Glorious riding really lovely start to the day. No jacket (but still in longs). Despite my off-road section being closed for tree works, and the roads being full of morons it was still fun. I like spring.

A super-meh morning..

Overcast with light drizzle, knackered after yesterday's relatively big ride and the usual sleep deficit causing a bigger-than-normal dopamine deficiency.

As usual peoples' attitudes generally reflected the weather with much less frivolity today than when the sun's out.

Legs are a bit achey but thankfully not too stiff / crampy; which makes a good argument for a better post-ride stretch regime!

Bit on the chilly side compared to the weekend, but not too bad.
Fasting for Ramadhan at the moment, so I always have porridge with honey/fruit salad and a pint of water before the fast starts at 5am. Fast ends at 6:02pm today.
Here's a picture of my breakfast in case you don't know what porridge looks like.

Not been on cycle chat for a while but still riding to and from work. Was going through a bad patch (pun intended) with punctures down the pennine trail so now using the roads to work. Keep passing a guy around 3.20pm on his bike who I use to see on the pennine wonder if he's on here 🤔

Yeah I am not sure that the Allez has eyelets for full guards. M'part may do clip on, I'm not sure.

In the end I went for the SKS Raceblade Pro XL which have adjustable rubber straps to attach the mudguards to the seat stays/front forks. Easy to fit and avoids the fiddly area of the brake bridge completely. So far I'm impressed.

second day of commuting after three week lay off, nice head wind and total lack of energy nice long frustrating ride into work. Usual close passes and idiots zooming past you only to be filtered past at the traffic lights.

Got some on my CX bike for road duties - they won't fit the knobblies underneath, nothing will !

What's a CX bike? What are the knobblies?

Whattt....

Cyclo Cross bike - the proper name for a gravel bike ! Knobblies - chunky tyres with knobbles. If I stick road tyres (wheels) on it I use it as a winter road bike. Come better weather, I put the knobbles back on and use it off road more (once the bad mud has gone).
