I only have a 4 mile ride to the train station (and back) and then it's only two days a week. The best part of it is on a segregated cyclepath (Coundon Cycleway), which is nice, but the best part is the friendly chats with other cyclists going the same way. I see regular faces and the chats become highlights of the day. I do think to myself that this is something that cannot be done via private car (though can be done on a bus). Cycling really does connect one with one's surroundings in many ways, making me feel "connected", whereas the motorcar isolates the driver (usually it's just the driver in the car) from the rest of the world and many of them seem to behave as though it's them against the rest of the world. Saying that though, it does sometimes feel like it's me on my bike against all the drivers. My commute also takes me past seven schools, often during the school run

(coming home - I'm far too early for the schools on the way to the station).
