I have to say riding into work in the mornings and seeing all the Christmas lights in shop windows and peoples houses always puts me in a good mood they seemed to be everywhere this morning. Anyone lucky enough to commute past Trafalgar Square or Oxford street on here please post some pictures

I love the fact that it's time doing something I enjoy, rather than time sitting mindlessly in a car. I love that I sometimes see wild boar in the Forest on the way to work. I love the fact that once I leave work, there are tens of different ways I can go home, all rural, some off road and all the sort of riding most people would go out of their way to find. I love the fact that my boss has got into cycling because of me and sometimes meets me half way to work to extend the commute and get a morning 20 miler in. I love the weather and being out in it, whatever it does. I love commuting through the Forest of Dean.

Just had nearly two weeks with no riding at all, very rare for me, due to looking after my better half after an operation back at work today, yesterday I was proper grumpy with myself because of going back to work, but the moment I was back on the bike had a big grin and smiling away to myself despite the rain and dark and it felt like a whole load of stress just falling away from me , the everyday amazing of the bicycle at work right there.

Best time of year right now for enjoying your commute, mostly I'm in the day light everything is full of spring , flowers, lambs , trees and so on .
I start using some slight detours to go through for instance the grounds of the university, these add more joy and mix it up at bit , also get back to using my old vintage bikes again after there winter lay up.

Newbie on here as a BR refugee. Been comutting for a fair few years and love the clear.head space it provides after work. Love the lack of early morning traffic and changing seasons and more importantly the ride home through and beating the traffic. Plus it's a great destresser after work.

Welcome to the board and especially the Commuting forum @oxoman
I used to dip in and out of the commuting forum on BR over the years, especially the SCR part.

The joy of filtering when hitting heavy city traffic.

Getting to work, finding that there are no work car park spaces left and locking my bike against the window grills in the IT alley.

I only have a 4 mile ride to the train station (and back) and then it's only two days a week. The best part of it is on a segregated cyclepath (Coundon Cycleway), which is nice, but the best part is the friendly chats with other cyclists going the same way. I see regular faces and the chats become highlights of the day. I do think to myself that this is something that cannot be done via private car (though can be done on a bus). Cycling really does connect one with one's surroundings in many ways, making me feel "connected", whereas the motorcar isolates the driver (usually it's just the driver in the car) from the rest of the world and many of them seem to behave as though it's them against the rest of the world. Saying that though, it does sometimes feel like it's me on my bike against all the drivers. My commute also takes me past seven schools, often during the school run  (coming home - I'm far too early for the schools on the way to the station).

+1

The joy of wafting past a packed car park, double parked at times, right to the front door, and locking the bike there.

The meandering longer route on quiet lanes I used to take home to get across Southampton city centre, helped me unwind after shifts and arrive home far less grumpy according to MrsNOTG, I really should have started it being the normal routine far sooner than I did.

Sounds a bit like my commute, except I'm mostly on road. I pass directly by two what could be nightmare school entrances but I fortunate to be passing significantly out of school run times. So it's one of the best bits of my commute. At the moment there is no road connection between the primary and secondary school sites close to each other. So I have a car free route that's quiet and 0.5miles shorter than by road.
