Some lovely rides this week. Yesterday afternoon much warmer, but traffic absolutely bonkers. No idea what screwed things up but a normally congested route was even worse*. Plenty of filtering to be done as I nipped past them all but still slowed me down. Made up for it by drafting a bus on the return and flew along.

I only pop onto the A6 towards Stockport near McVities, and it's lovely and wide with the bus lane and occasional bike lane that the busses 'sneak' down  Still hobbling from bed to dining table.

Crikey. They were all out this morning. Mudguard-less road bikes, MTBs with saddle too low, Leccie bikes. T-shirts and football shorts. Abomination.

I want January back. Already tired of sharing the bike and bus lanes. 😁

Simon, a couple of things here; one is that the driver felt safe enough cocooned inside his metal fortress to give you what he/she felt was a much needed lesson on how to safely ride a bike, and second, that his/her sense of superiority towards someone (you) who obviously couldn't afford a big box to drive around in was adequately demonstrated to his/her satisfaction. You should feel proud you were so enabling today towards one of the less fit members of society.
As it was a driving instructor with a pupil, he should have used the opportunity to explain to his pupil the need to exercise due diligence in the locality of a cyclist rather than sounding off at me.
Shocking example of arrogance.

A surprisingly fast commute thanks to a good tailwind and having to slow down marginally for a driver. I knew he'd pull out (the road is quite busy) and a few 100m down the road goes to a narrow 20mph indirect section. Amazingly the lights for the more direct bus gate route through the middle were green (most cyclists go the longer way as they are never green). So I was through before he was. Hopefully realising how futile his move was, he never overtook where most drivers do on the wider downhill to yet another inevitable red light. I usually let them (not that I can stop them) but they trigger the lights so they are almost green by the time I am there.

After taking yesterday off though, it was:

Took the big boys bike today as seeing it was such a nice, mild day I'd cycle the 27 miles home. And so I did. First time this year that it actually felt warm making the journey so much easier without cold air pushing you back.

New rolling stock on the 17.05 from St'Evanage to Pottyboro tonight. I wonder if it was a direct replacement for last Friday's 17.05 that got smashed up. I stood on the platform where the smashed up train usually stops it's bike carriage but there wasn't any. I dashed down the platform a bit and saw none either and ended up diving into a carriage before it had to leave. Meant I was left without somewhere proper to tie up the bike but this train at least had fold down chairs in the vestibule so I got a seat.

It was supposed to be a short restful commute but with it being such a great evening and with the wind in my favour I got off a stop early and ended up sprinting to beat the dark. At a guess with my Station being 15mins up the line, 5mins or so to get out of the station and 25mins to get home I was only 5mins late home and I had fun. 🙂

Finally, finally some warmth. First time this year wearing normal cycling shoes instead of winter boots. I took the bar mitts off, too. Absolutely joyous cycling home in daylight.

82 F here yesterday, another hot year coming up.

Not commuting, but this was the third time this year I have been out for a ride without leg warmers, and this time I also switched from the heavy long sleeved jersey to summer jersey with arm warmers.
