A balmy 5 degrees apparently today so I made do with one thicker base layer and the jacket for some windproofing... still needed thick gloves and the cap though.

Had to wait for the car to defrost / demist but the drive itself was pleasant with seemingly everyone on the same page for once in not driving like dickheads.

Parked in a slightly different spot after last week's polite-but-baselessly-entitled note on my windscreen by someone telling me that they "need" the space outside their house; as obviously driveway parking for two vehicles isn't enough in the face of my daring to park my roadworthy-and-legal vehicle on a public road.

Not a lot to report for the bike portion - nearing town I recalled how I'd not recently seen the friendly mother and her child I'd often encounter walking in the other direction.. only to clock them moments later coming towards me on bikes; so it seems they've evolved

As always better to get out than not, although after a shakey weekend I'm still feeling less-than-splendid..

This always amuses me; the idea that someone is not only entitled to store property on a public space, but also so entitled to exclusive use of the space they can order other people not to use it.

I remember many years ago when shovelling snow off the pavement in front of our flat, I was shouted at by the neighbour opposite for blocking 'her' parking space (remember, opposite of her house) with snow. It was made worse because I also had to clear half of the road because due to the parked cars, the snowploughs didn't clear our side of the road, leaving a slippery barrier for us on our bikes. I did ask if she had any suggestions where I could put all this snow, but she looked affronted and walked off.

Yeah, seems I'm popular on that road as this is the third time I've been "approached" for daring to park there, although at least it was somewhat respectfully on this occasion.

I'm very happy to help / accommodate people when I can, however when approached from an accusatory / entitled perspective this usually provokes the opposite reaction. I think I'll park elsewhere for a bit then occasionally in front of their house just to remind them that they have no right to dictate how others use the public road.

I was tempted to put a note through the door stating that I'd oblige since they asked nicely / to keep the peace, but that I was under no legal or moral obligation to do so. However, given how much other crap I've had to deal with this weekend it seemed like a poor use of my time explaining myself to dickheads.

While I appreciate the point about the number of available spaces (of which there are enough) as a whole residents' arguments are substantially undermined by the fact that many of them park like total bellends - in the mouth of / opposite junctions, staggered from one side of the road to the other making the whole thing into a massive slalom, occupying the entire space between two drives when a bit of forethought would allow you to get two cars in there..

Some folk get very worked up about parking.

To be fair I do too... Some of the parking in the village is atrocious but my vitriol is because it's universally terrible and inconsiderate towards all; not because I've taken it as some affront to a non-existant personal right.

Back in the saddle this morning on road bike today, felt like spring is round the corner and wont be to far off before its light in the morning, quiet morning on the bike, virtually no traffic not sure how everyone gets to work these days as its certainly not by car most of the roads empty this morning on way in so toss pot driving count only one but not really worth mentioning I got a lecture an he got a shout f off end of. Glad to be cycling again sill have a cold but it feels like its on its way out finally. Did 30 miles sat did not feel good fine today.

I had thought about ditching the winter jersey for a summer one after the last commute. I'm glad I didn't. It hadn't rained overnight so wasn't too bad overnight but it must have cleared a few hours before dawn and it was 🥶 The road was right shinny too!

At least the lights were mostly with me and I didn't have to stop too many times.

Nice, I would leave a note informing them you have a camera in the car and you are entitled to park where you like its taxed and has an mot if you dont like it take a long walk off a very short pier.
