Am inch of fresh damp snow again, but just a little bit colder, so much less wet, and clear skies. Far nicer than yesterday!

WFH yesterday on account of the weather. Today - "Come into the office" they said - "there's absolutely no snow here"..

Being not used to riding in such conditions I took it very slowly and carefully; surprised by how unphased the bike felt compared to how slippery it felt underfoot when I got off - I guess due to the comparatively tiny contact patches of the tyres.

Glad I made it in without incident although my legs and feet are bloody cold now I've sat down for a bit. Viewing the ride home with an amount of trepidation..

I need to do some repairs to my gravel bike, so I had to take my road bike in this morning. I really don't like using my road bike for commuting at this time of year as it rim brake with 25mm tyres. Felt like a slog, which is unusual on my road bike, turns out my brake was rubbing on the wheel- sorted that and it was it's usual nippy self. Roads and cycle paths in North Somerset were absolutely fine this morning, no ice or slippery spots. However, as soon as I crossed into Bristol, the cycle path became quite slippery, and ice pretty much every where except the roads. It's usually the other way around!

Scattering of snow near home, and slushy mush in places. Had the 'super cold proof' winter top on from Decathlon, but as it's black, popped on a 'new' high vis Polaris windproof Gillet !

You guessed it, nearly got taken out by a driver from a side road on my right - just pulled out, despite high vis, reflectives and four bladdy lights. The only thing that stopped him was me shouting 'Whooooaaahhh'. Could cycle round nekkid and no one would notice.

Could've got away without ice tyres today but they'll be needed tomorrow.

Came across a blocked road, drivers failing to share it nicely at a narrow part caused long tailbacks. Slowed me down a bit getting around the protagonists.

The view from the back of my bike was better than the view from the front, because I was riding towards the west away from the sunrise.

The ride home was unexpectedly nice - the temperature was bearable, most of the snow had melted while the sky was crystal clear and filled with the last vestages of the sunset. It felt more like a cold spring night than mid-winter.

It was so pleasant I pushed the ride out to Waitrose for another four kilos of flapjack precursors; swallowed convincingly by the bag since I was wearing much of what's usually in it and I'd left the rings at home. I did stop for a quick dead-hang on the bars when passing though.

Bit concerned about the ride in tomorrow as it's apparently going to be minus two, but I don't really want to cave and take the car as the conditions are hardly going to improve the already shitty congestion and standard of driving..

was planning on cycling in today and for rest of the week good old google weather giving me the usual forecast for snow has done that for last three days despite fact we have had none. Wife got brand new motor bike about a month ago some cretin yesterday knocked her off and destroyed her bike. Will give it a miss this week as I dont want to be statistic and I know the way dickheads drive round here.

Minus temperatures this morning for the first time this week, but we've had no snow or wet weather over the past few days so the tarmac is dry. Though for the journey home light showers are predicted.

@fossyant ouch mate. Hope not too badly hurt.

@markharry66 Sincerely hope Mrs MarkHarry isn't too hurt either. I swear car drivers are getting worse. Over 40 years on and off cycle commuting and I don't think I've known it so bad. There really is a lot of aggressive, selfish driving out there now.

Beautiful wintry ride in today.

Exceptionally icy with hard frozen slush and last week's flood water so almost no cars on the back roads.
