I've nothing strange or startling to report from todays commute but I don't often come to the office these days so thought I'd drop by and mark a 12.4 mile commute which led to a 6 mile work visit (20p a mile hooray! ).

I remembered my charging cables this time so no battery anxiety on the way home later.

Woke up to the usual dark, damp winter weather with news possible snow on its way this week, put overshoes on this morning ony 3rd time I have used them broken never seem to be able to get on with over shoes wont be using them again straight in the bin. Lovely start to the day will have to go another route as one I have been using blocked off again due to flooding.or burst water main all thames water ever seem to do round here is put a sticking plaster over the problem anyway. Headed down usual route, cars parked either side usual lottery of some cars letting you through or some just coming straight through. Has a delivery driver either tescos or arcardo force me off road, the response was quite re-strained for me "said thanks mate for that". Only to get a barage of swear words really should have gone back to have a go, normally I would I am not the reporting type quite a large well built chap next time I see you be warned.

Winter boots for the win. Wear mine alot as the paths are usually wet and full of dirt (just the conditions for boots).

Thanks just googled them will be buying some never knew they existed

So good I've got three pairs. I can recommend the Shimano ones (MW5 or MW7 - SPD fitting or RW if road orientated). Not cheap but well worth looking on ebay for used - two of my pairs I picked up 'lightly used' and just shoved them in the washing machine. Shimano ones are pretty much wipe clean, and they keep your feet toasty.

Sounds like the delivery prick needed reporting to their employer.. they're probably GPS tracked so if you have a time, location and company they should be able to identify the driver.

Relieved that this morning's ride was infinitely nicer than the torrential, sub-zero apocalypse prophesied a few days ago.

Out in the now-usual double-base layer, double-bagged feet and thin gloves. A nice, clear, crisp morning of tolerable temperature, low-lying mist and a bit of sun.

Nothing significant to report; other than being thankful for the mild weather and really glad to get out on the bike with the usual casual interactions with nice folk after another weekend dominated by dark isolation. Radiohead's Kid A provided an appropriately evocative and dystopian sountrack to my very British route in, and I had a big smile on my face by the time I rolled into the city to the sound of Optimistic

Sadly it appears that this sentiment can't be applied to the ride home; which currently remains slated to be very damp.. better to get soaked on the way home I suppose..

As long as I breathe, I attack.
For me the next couple of days will be in the car as tonight i will be catching the peak time for snow risk and with the standing water freezing i will not risk it .
Already had a meeting with HR about the time off i have had over the last few years due to operations and they made it clear i was not meeting the expected attendance so i cant risk time off if i have an accident .

Frustratingly, I am just about back at the level of fitness where I would have tried riding in thise week (Wed & Fri in the office), but I'm not having my first day back on the cycle commute be one with a significant risk of ice.

So looks like another week of car commuting - which will make my wife happy, she isn't keen on me commuting by bike now.
