A gorgeous, bright morning today - sadly two attributes definitely lacking from the ignorant, leatherfaced bawbag who saw fit to pull out, and subsequently pretty much park his greasy chelsea tractor in front of me in whilst in the car - causing me to brake down from maybe 45 mph to a near standstill. Gobshite somehow seemed to think the fault lay with me, as he continued to vacuously drift around the carriageway at questionably low speeds..

On to a glorious bike section and right at the beginning I got passed on the cycle path by a teenage girl; bizarrely on the left where there was scant room between me and the road, with loads of room remaining on the right. After passing she cut across in front of me and hovered for a while making no headway, before we crested the hill and I left her behind.

Many pleasant interactions with happy, friendly people on the tow path and some magnificent sights to behold courtesy of the myriad yoga leggings..

A quick stop at the monkey bars for a dangle; shared briefly with the woman and and her personal trainer I've encountered a few times in the past.

On to town in good time and a quick trip to the butchers for the usual before making my way up the tow path to work.

Today's journey was buoyed by a bit of a tailwind and was comfortable in the zipped baselayer; even if I lost feeling in my fingertips and had to wait until mile 4-5 for it to return... trying to stave off using the gloves for as long as possible in an effort to toughen myself up a bit as I'm very conscious that by seasonal terms it's still very warm at 8-9 degrees.

An absolutely fantastic ride thanks to the lovely weather and by extension the great mood everyone was in (chelsea tractor knobhead notwithstanding) after weeks of gloom. This morning's journey has really lifted my mood following a weekend of dark, solitary malaise.

My buff has been dug out of the cupboard and the winter skull cap - looking nippy for tomorrow am.

Cold start not freezing, road in to work found it hard going this morning slowest time so far to get it in but enjoyed it. Supposed to be colder next week, hoping dont have to take car. Not much traffic on the roads not sure where everyone is but liking it long may it continue and temp traffic lights mostly gone, waiting on new sets to land which will probably be nextweek or within the next few days in the same road and exactly the same areas.

Hard frost locally, so opted to switch to the ice wheels. Three minutes to change both, then had to adjust one of the front pas I changed last night as it was just catching the tyre on the ice wheels - involved digging the 10mm spanner out of my panniers to adjust the canti pad - total switch time 10 minutes.

I'd allowed time for this anyway, but the pads are now set for both tyres (canti's can catch the 'wide' tyre wall depending upon the tyre fitted).

Ride in was nice and frosty, and arrived just 2 minutes slower than with non-ice tyres.

No frost on my urban ride. Dug out the new SealSkinz Fring gloves though - wonderful fully recommended, assuming you can get someone else to buy them for you. Not yet Buff weather, but soon.

Car all over the road today no idea what was going on - including headfirst towards oncoming traffic.

Time it takes me to adjust cantis is generally closer to 10 months than 10 minutes!

As long as I breathe, I attack.
2 c according to some one who drives in on the same roads,I was in full winter gear and it felt like I was riding through treacle.
Average down by 1 mph compared to usual.
At least the second hand wheel has cured the creak😁

Last night was an odd one; preceded by anxiety and reluctance to stop to hang off the rings in the cold and dark and the associated guilt of binning it off.

By the time I'd got into town and warmed up I was feeling more positive; the temperature still mild despite the beautifully clear dusk sky in its graduated blue glory.

Decided against rings and pushed the ride out a little instead. Made my way into Waitrose for flapjack ingredients; lugging the little porker Brompton, bag and shopping basket around for maybe 10-15 minutes; which wasn't fun but more manageable than it has been in the past... so I guess that's progress.

Back out into the night feeling more enthusiastic so I stopped for some time on the rings anyway. Alone in the park; accompanied only by my visible breath in the chilly night air and the lingering aroma of high quality hash eminating from somewhere close. Not a great session in itself but quite peaceful, better than nowt and I'm pleased that I pushed myself to make the effort.

Then it was onward home; spending the rest of the night making lunches / flapjack / generally doing other necessary stuff with a correspondingly late night. An uncharacteristically productive day..

Awake again at an unwelcome early hour this morning, feeling the effects of yesterday's exertions. After reluctantly dragging myself out of bed and through the shower I found the bike's front tyre to be flat... Aware of time constraints it was inflated and left with the pump attached; it losing little pressure while I assembled the unfeasible amount of gear required by the commute so I chanced it.

The car journey was blighted by fairly consistant low-level moronic behaviour which did little to improve my already declining mood. Once out on the bike everything felt tangibly colder, and faced with the possibility of having to sort the front tyre en-route I donned the gloves for the first time this winter to try and maintain some feeling in my fingers, should it become required.

A tolerable but much less pleasant journey than yesterday; grey again with little sun and an apparant headwind. A brief dangle at the today-deserted bars was rewarded by a satisfying pop from one of my shoulders, while later pestering the butcher yielded the usual two sausages.

Made it to work comfortably on time with thankfully no obvious issues from the front tyre; only to find the Co-op bereft of the egg sandwich that's become a bit of a breakfast staple

Now sat in the office with both toes and fingers bloody cold despite the former being double-bagged in merino / normal socks. Also back to that miserably familiar feeling of the cold seeming to exacerbate all the post-ride aches.

Very aware that for the forseeable it's only going to get worse from here; roll on summer!

Forecast looking like I'll be back on normal wheels tomorrow. Colleague had remembered gloves, a hat and a warmer jacket, but was contemplating an extra pair of socks. I pointed out at the 'SPD boots' and he said his feet get too hot for something like them !
