I think that has been tried (unintentionally), I believe a ship-yard (now defunct), local to me, built several like that, didn't end well. :

Expanding on my idea, maybe a hot air gun on one side and an ice pack on the other would cause enough deformation to free it.

Yes, there may be a slight ballasting problem, too. A ship stuck sideways is bad enough, a ship, lying on it's side, and stuck sideways would be upping the stakes, just a trifle.

Couldn't they pull the plug out for a bit, then put it back in quickly when the ship starts to spin round?

Its been reported that the vessel has been shifted slightly. Whether slightly means millimeters or metres is not elaborated upon. Furthermore, the canal authorises are now conceding that human error may have played a part. No sheet Sherlock.
