Smash the cistern
So, what IS the Ever Given code...?
Just clear the message and submit the code as displayed. It refreshes with the page, it's not vessel specific.

I did wonder what horrendous logistical problems this little episode will have created at Rotherdam, Felixstowe and Hamburg etc etc, and also for all the other ships stuck behind the Ever Given. I expect it's rather like a minor accident on the M25 on Friday afternoon.

No idea of the actual figures, but if there were around 100 vessels heading for European ports following the Ever Given, these would normally have arrived over a 7 day period (the length of the blockage). They will now all (presumably) arrive in a 2 day period now it's clear and free flowing, so I'd imagine there will be a lot of juggling of scedules and changes to the port of call rotation to better distribute them around Europe.

There have been reports that the ship owners are bracing for claims from other shipping companies that will likely go into billions.. But no press reports mention how the liability comes about. I understand that Canal pilots are mandatory at all times but ultimately the ship captain is responsible. If it is indeed high winds and sandstorm, is this act of god etc? Where is the canal authority in all this?

Anyone has any idea?

Meanwhile the Ever Given is still in the Great Bitter Lake. Perhaps there's more damage to it than first appeared. Unless they've been told to keep out of the way until the backlog has cleared a bit.

More akin to a major blockage on the M25 at Dartford which closes both carriageways for several days over the August Bank holiday with the queues extending to Dover where 10,000 trucks are stuck at customs and the local authorities having to hand out food and water

They will be checking for hogging and sagging damage.
A ship 400m long is not designed to have bow and stern hard aground, whilst the middle goes up and down with the tide.

The crew will have been pumping ballast water in and out of the tanks as the tide rose and fell, but it would have been a bit of a guessing game, probably relying on listening to the creaks and groans as the steel flexed.

The ship will be heading for the nearest port where they can transfer 20,000 containers to other ships, and then going into dry dock.

There'll be a lot of Force Majeure being invoked, that's for sure!

In Jan, ships were offloading UK destined containers in Rotterdam and getting back to sea rather than faff around with port difficulties in the UK.
If the ports are overwhelmed I can see them doing this again to get their ships back on schedule for their E-W cargo sailing.
Containers are then shunted around by local container vessels in their own time.
