We are saddened by the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. Our thoughts are with her family and all those affected by this news. As a mark of respect during this time of national mourning we will only be posting daily forecasts and warnings.

I thought this was a joke !!!

My taxes pay their salaries - I want a bl**dy forecast, not some failure of public service due to some sycophant thinking they need to show some "respect" - f*ck, I am cross !

That was pretty much my reaction but on digging a bit further.... Apparently, what they really meant was that they'll be posting forecasts etc as usual but out of some strange version of respect will not be posting extra stuff like pictures that they usually do.

Well if that's the case I'd suggest that they just quietly refrain from posting the light hearted stuff and don't make a big announcement of how respectful they are being.

Fantastic the tour of Britain is cancelled but my company wouldn’t let me stay off unless it was taken unpaid. No respect.
No respect for what?
  • Your employer not shutting shop for the day
  • The ToB organisers cancelling the event
  • Or that you can't have your cake* and eat it**
* a day off work
** get paid for watching telly

i do not understand all this cancelling events as a mark of respect. Surely anything that brings people together is positive and appropriate adjustments can be made.I went to a live event from the national theatre last night beamed to my local arts centre. They had a minutes silence and played the anthem but then the show went ahead from London. The absurdity of allowing the test match to continue while cancelling the cycling and football invites division. Rather than cancelling let’s have more events so people who want to can come together.

Exactly. At least the Vuelta didn’t batter an eyelid & was business as usual just like work.

I suppose our National Anthem will now be changed to "God Save The King" and other changed words. It will seem odd for quite a while to hear it at football matches etc. I think it might be Last Night Of The Proms this coming Saturday. If so it'll be the first time we'll hear it at a prestigious event.🤔

It’s just been sung at the Service of Remembrance (it won’t be sung at the RAH this weekend)
