Is anyone getting married or having babies during this period of national mourning? Belgium royal Princess Maria-Laura of Belgium will wed her British partner William Isvy tomorrow.
For some people it will be the happiest day of their life and I think it is innappropriate for the tabloid driven masses to impose grieving on the nation.

What’s stopping them getting married (unless it’s happening in a UK royal palace and loads of British royals were due to attend?)

Apparently not, so I'm not sure what the issue is?
The two will be wed at the Cathedral of St. Michael and St. Gudula in Brussels on September 10, 2022.

I'd love to know how you can stop people having babies.

It's a bit different from the proms?

Why then broadcast the 'lesser' concerts but miss out the grand finale?🤔 I have my suspicions as to why, but lets not get political eh.🧐

All the "lesser" concerts had already been broadcast before she died.

And it isn't that the BBC decided not to broadcast the rest, they have been cancelled. The concerts will not take place, so CANNOT be broadcast.

I suspect if they had gone ahead, the BBC may well have decided against broadcasting them anyhow, but that is speculation.

And TBH, it is only the last night that has all the jingoistic and celebratory stuff.

Not sure @Accy cyclist is so fussed about the 'proper' classical concerts which form the vast majority of the Proms season... having had no idea that they had been on TV/radio since mid July

Of course I know/knew the concerts start/started in July! Though I couldn't watch them if I wanted to as I won't turn my TV on and I doubt they would've been on You Tube, and to be honest I'm only really 'into' The Last Night.🧐

They’re on the radio too

@Beebo - mine that I had listed on eBay for £2 sold within minutes of the announcement.

Are you saving the money, or spending it @DCLane ?

Prep yourself for witchell and co droning on !

He almost broke down on the BBC yesterday saying that people would be 'disorientated'.

Far away across the fields the tolling of the iron bell draws the faithful to their knees to hear the softly spoken magic spell...

OK, it was about religion but illustrates the grip the monarchy has on the masses. I'm fed up with 'she was my rock/cement/glue of society' etc. Trouble is by using monarchs as emotional crutches, what are you going to do when they die as has just happened?. The masses are having a bit of a shock at the moment. The cement of civilization has gone....end of the world for some?.

There is a huge demographic shift in how people feel about the Monarchy. Generally, the older you are, the more you are deferential and feel attached to the monarchy. Unfortunately the country's organisations, be that the FA or the BBC or whatever, are out of step because they're run by older people and they don't want to be criticised for not going "full mourning"

Try asking a young person if they're happy that Coronation Street was cancelled, or that they can't got to the football this weekend
