Anyone know of any in the vicinity of Victoria Park, where it'll be safe to leave a lot of bikes without coming out afterwards to find they've gone ?

Or do we have to have a 5 min ride along to Leith and the myriad of fine watering holes on/around the Shore ?

Would Leith be any safer??

Down at the shore, there are some nice waterfront bars and restaurants that you sit out the front, drinking your beer and watching your pride and joy. But, mainstream Leith is, in my opinion, still a little on the dodgy side.

That was my thinking - if the weather's fine, we can sit outside and watch the bikes. I wouldn't dare venture into any of the 'mainstream' Leith pubs

I've arranged to have my bike shipped back to Glasgow at the end, so I am not sure I can stay in Edinburgh long for beers. How does the bike transport thing work? Where would I pick it up in Glasgow and how long do I have to pick it up?

I've only done it once an the other way. I put my bike in a large van the took the bus to Glasgow Green. It was a bit nerve wracking waiting for the correct van to appear and it was a bit haphazard. Some folks were waiting longer than me others shorter. However for the numbers they deal with it was OK. BTW If I recall right, drivers were only supposed to give the numbered bikes to the matching competitor number.

What am I, an ex-pat, visiting sasennach, letting myself in for?

Watch Trainspotting (the full title is "Trainspotting At Leith Central Station"). That's the 'mainstream' pubs - the ones you leave by the window, or in an ambulance

The Shore's lovely though - all nice bars and restaurants. That's why I live there ;)

Well, My wife and I have finally entered the event. We did not enter as part of the CC team, but have asked for a 0920 depart. Hopefully, we will see some of you guys at the start or en route to Edinburgh. I will not be spending long in the pub as we intend to take our car to Glasgow with the bikes, so I will need to return to Glasgow on the train to pick up the car.

There's only one solution that fits all - a carry-out en route ;)

And since we'll be passing through Coatbridge on a Sunday morning, what better time and place to imbibe in that legendary augustinian fortified beverage which has spiritual properties? Team Bucky here we go!

We might all be fechtin by Linlithgow though...

One useful tip I learned last year is to remeber the license plate of the truck carrying your pride and joy, so you'll not be suffering a heart/panic attack when your bike doesn't appear out of the (wrong) truck you are watching being unloaded !

Magnatom - I think they load the bikes onto trucks and people on to the buses as you want when you finish, then take them back to Glasgow Green (the Start). How long do you get ? As long as the last rider who has return transport booked, I guess ! (could be 6-8hrs after the start !!!)

Dayvo's buying the round at the pub isn't he ? There's no way a true Scotsman will be last when there's the chance of a free pint if he can get to the end quick enough to fit one in before home-time....:biggrin::biggrin:
