I’ve just seen this ridiculous video on YouTube. Colin McRae driving through huge crowds. He could easily have killed 20 spectators. Im amazed the organisers even allowed the cars through at speed. It should have been neutralised. How can a driver be expected to zone that out?

You can see how he ended up crashing his helicopter with friends onboard, if this is how you lived your life, with practically zero consideration for safety.

Different times. Every competitor on that rally would have done the same thing. In fact that looks quite tame compared to some old rally stages where people would try to touch the cars as they passed.

Has anyone noticed recently that it is in vogue for F1 drivers to be photographed in some clenched fist pose.

I can only conclude...

A) they're getting ready to arm wrestle.

B) they're making a w****r sign.

C) they're trying to flex their biceps.

D) playing paper-scissors-stone.

Whatever, it's very silly and they should stop it.

Actually they were holding up 2 fingers to the FIA but somebody has used a cloning tool on the pictures.

That's nothing. You should go back and look at some of the Group B footage from the early / mid 1980s. The experienced drivers didn't like it, but it was how it was - 450 bhp spaceframe prototypes threading the eye of a needle, on events that were far longer and more challenging than McRae Jr ever drove on.

I suggest you look up what happened on the '86 TAP Rally Portugal, when a local driver was given a Ford RS200 for the event by his team / sponsor.

The footage looks oddly smooth from inside the car - almost like a computer game superimposed upon a crowd.

I've seen a lot of crowds in silly places on corners, but that one is another level  !!!!

Should be shown to (cycling) Grand Tour organisers; with that mindset, fans are hardly going to be scared of a moto doing 30mph just in front of the riders. (sadly)
