Even more interesting will be seeing where Sainz ends up.

Audi dont hit the grid until 2026. Can't see him taking a year out, at least not voluntarily.

They all have a merry go round at the same point. So Sainz to the interim "Stake" before it becomes Audi, Bottas back to Merc and Ham into a Rrari

I think it's that. The Ferrari has at least been a little competitive - if he's moving it's because he thinks he can drive it better and win.

That and a reported £100m pa contract. He's the sport's biggest brand (and one of the World's biggest, of course) now to be employed by the sport's biggest brand with a market cap of £66bn. Plus he's always said he would before he retired.

I get the impression Ferrari have something up there sleeve for 2026 and Ham can see the rudder has come off Merc with how many staff have been poached. Nothing doing for the next 2 years at least, coupled with them not listening to some of his complaints on development.

Either way, something has gone off at Merc.

The really cynical side of me has Merc pulling out of F1 in the next couple of years.

The only reason Wolsley hasn't been sacked by Merc for not only the monumental cock up over the cars 2022 architecture, but also the persistent refusal to see reality and continuing into 2023 with it, is because hes an equal share co-owner. Anyone else would have long been given the heaven ho.

That also makes sense. He has a crack this year if the 2024 car has improved, then a year driving for Ferrari before he potentially hangs up his boots.
