Well - that was a race!

I really enjoyed that - action for most of the race. Who'da thunk the McLaren boys would be fighting with Bull at the front or that the Williams would be so zippy? Felt a bit sorry for George and Piastri after Hamilton lucked the safety car. I did enjoy Toto's comment afterwards that they have had their fair share of unfavourable safety cars...

Max actually had to do some racing for once (albeit not for very long).

It is starting to feel that outside of Red Bull the teams are getting much closer together than they have ever been IMHO.

Norris wasn't really fighting with Max. He put up a bit of a defence but when it was clear Max was very quickly going to make it stick whether he resisted or not Norris just let him by.

After all, why waste time and tyres and risk a collision over a race for first that he wasn't really in at all? That shows a degree of maturity and strategic thinking that will hopefully make Norris a world champion one day.

Tidy driving from Piastri took, kept himself well outof trouble. You can bet the McLaren engineers will be having some late nights trying to find why the cars both responded so spectacularly to the hard tyres.

Nice bit of driving from Albon following the safety car. He's really coming along as a driver.

Not so good for DeVries. Its little secret that he's been given three or four races to raise his game or he'll be out, and that wspas nu be 2. Old Helmut has openly admitted that Horner was right and that he should not have hired him. Ricciardo can smell what's cooking and has been making comments in the media the last few days about his willingness to drive for AT if it meant a genuine chance at a Red Bull seat in the future, and with Perez's combination of bad luck and lacklustre driving that opportunity might conceivably rise. Although Perez is signed until the end of next season there will be inevitable performance clauses for both parties, so who knows? Hell, I like this off track shenanigans as much as the racing!

I felt a bit for Russell. I think this talk of Lewis having a bit of a comeback this year is premature. Sure enough, Russell was well ahead but fell foul of some horrible timing for the safety car, giving Lewis a free pit stop while Russell had just taken a regular pit stop and thus lost a few places only for the safety car to then give his team mate a leapfrog freebie.

The Alpha Tauri is near enough the worst car on the grid this year, and let's face it, Tsunoda isn't exactly setting the world alight either. The toxic politics that goes on behind the scenes (much of which we DON'T know about) is the sort of stuff that really messes with a driver's head. And it's rife in top level motor racing, as there's always far more drivers than race seats.

Was interesting listening to the radio commentary for FP2 the other day, when the 5Live team (Harry Benjamin, Andrew Benson and Sam Bird - who has raced against DeVries a fair bit in recent years) happened to be discussing just this - it should still be available among the Checquered Flag podcasts.

Bottom line when it comes to Alpha Tauri (or Torro Rosso), everything a driver does in that team is measured up against what Sebastian Vettel did at Monza in 2008. And this is Helmut Marko's policy according to both Sebastian Bourdais and Jaime Alguesuari, who both drove for the team. He keeps saying "if Seb could do it, so can you". The damn thing is, that particular race chucked up a very unique set of circumstances, and the car was half decent in the wet. But when you've a slow car with the rigidity of blancmange, decent results are going to be pie-in-the-sky.

So the management have ridiculously high and very unrealistic expectations - which is why they're burning through drivers like they're going out of fashion. And ruining careers and reputations in the process.

But he did overtake him at the start, so if he really wasn't interested in the lead - why bother?

I agree. I don't think there's a comeback this year. If they do the right work on next years car, then hopefully.

Bravado, just to show he can if given the machinery, ego boost, give Max something to chuckle about, hopefully force an error so he really did have a chance, born racer, 100% competitive at all times, give the crowd something to cheer at (they did), how many more reasons do you need?

It was great to see, well rather hear them applaud Max as he crossed the line, even better to hear the volume go up as Lando crossed, I didn't see the podium as the sight of Coulthard made me switch off, but hopefully there was little or no booing at Max this year.

I didn't hear any on the TV and the camaraderie between Max, Lewis and Lando really came across on the podium. Biggest cheers were for Lando obviously.

Rumours circulating from normally credible sources that AT have sacked DeVries with immediate effect.

Word is RB are impressed with Ricciardos simulator performance and extremely happy with how he went on the recent tyre test. Add to that cryptic remarks from Dr Marko yesterday when asked if Ricciardo was in line to replace DeVries and one must wonder if he really will be back.

And if he is given a chance and it goes well you can bet Perez will be getting a squeaky bum over the inevitable performance clause in his contract...

But mere speculation on my part! For now the word is that DeVries is going to be signing on the dole tomorrow.

"Red Bull boss Christian Horner, who watched Ricciardo in the tyre test: "It is great to see Daniel hasn’t lost any form while away from racing and that the strides he has been making in his SIM sessions translate on track.

"His times during the tyre test were extremely competitive. It was a very impressive drive and we are excited to see what the rest of the season brings for Daniel on loan at Scuderia AlphaTauri."

Hey ho, Red Bull management back to shitting on drivers and ruining careers in the same way that a leopard can't change its spots.

Guess they can't fire Tsunoda, because he's probably bringing too much money to the team. It's not as if he's been setting the world alight either. So De Vries gets made the scapegoat for the team's inadequacies.

In football, if a team's doing shite, the manager gets sacked, in motor racing it's the driver. With the actual perpetrators getting off scott free. As always. Money talks and bullshit walks. Forgive me, but I've seen this garbage far too many times before, where people meddle who shouldn't be anywhere near the decisions.
