More wheels than sense
Turns out it was 1200 reports of which 80 odd were found to be actual off tracks.

Makes you wonder who was over reporting .

I wonder if Perez was noted for this?

The infringement is “leaving the track without justifiable reason”. Avoiding an accident, or being nerfed off, are arguably justifiable reasons.
Also gaining an advantage, he potentially could have braked therefore losing momentum instead of going wide & being able to accelerate straight back onto the track, I seem to remember Alonso doing the same elsewhere last year, he even practised it.

Only two managed yesterday, Russell and Alonso.

I don't recall Verstappen or Perez getting a 5 second penalty?

Full list of F1 drivers with Austrian Grand Prix penalties:-
Lewis Hamilton [Track Limits] +15

Carlos Sainz [Track Limits] +15s

Esteban Ocon [Unsafe Release and Track Limits] +35s

Nyck de Vries [Forcing Magnussen off the track and Track Limits] +20s

Alex Albon [Track Limits] +15s

Yuki Tsunoda [Track Limits x4] +20s

Pierre Gasly [Track Limits] +15s

Logan Sargeant [Track Limits] +15s

Kevin Magnussen [Track Limits] +5s

They got warnings (3 infringements), but not a penalty (4+ infringements)
Russell & Zhou didn't get any warnings so had 2 or fewer infringements.
Usually the majority of drivers take some infringements if a corner gives a benefit. They usually stop when the black and white flag is waved and their engineer says "stop doing that"

The problem yesterday is that there were so many infringements that the warnings were only being given 7 or 8 laps later, by which time it was too late.

British Grand Prix weekend ahoy.

I live within earshot of Silverstone - one of my favourite rides is the trail around the outside of the circuit - so may get to "hear" the race live.

It's good and bad. Traffic can be a ballache on the main roads, but I've nowhere to go anyway and the local rural roads remain fairly Q.

It's a helicopter spotters delight, so will so will spend some time e in the garden with my scanner and nackernoculars.

I went down on the motorbike years ago before all the road alterations, when I came out they had closed all the roads to stop traffic coming towards Silverstone, they sent me down the opposite carriageway to come back to the M1, it was a very strange feeling riding the wrong way, I kept expecting a car to come round the bend straight at me.

Aye, the policing of it is a bit odd but usually fairly good.

Useless fact - despite over half the circuit, including the entrance, and all the campsites actually being in Buckinghamshire it is Northamptonshire police that run the operation. They charge the BRDC max going rate for officers on OT and then stuff it with as many unpaid specials as they can manage. In any other walk of life that might be considered a bit naughty...
