Too young! I only see the nostalgic rose tinted versions. Thought the MP4/4 is one of my favourite F1 cars.

You're making me feel old - I was 13 in 1988, but had been following F1 since '82.

Anyways, I'll see your MP4/4 and raise you an Arrows A11 instead... ;) If only Arrows had had a bigger budget to develop what was a real diamond in the rough. Ah well, one does now hold the lap record at Goodwood.

Although from an engineering point of view, the MP4-series McLarens of the 1980s are kind of special, especially the John Barnard-designed ones.

Does this thread have the wrong title ?

I’ve looked back somewhat; and all I see is F1 mentioned. Is no-one interested in WRC, BSB, WSB, WTCC, MOTO GP or any other form of Motorsport. On 2 or 4 wheels ?

Whilst technically the F1 cars may be the most advanced on the Planet; there’s many other top level Championships that offer far better ‘racing’ (In terms of depth of competition, venues, sound, amount of overtaking etc) imo….

I think other motorsport gets an occasional mention. There is a separate thread I think for the 2 wheeled types. At the moment it's the start of F1 season so naturally...

I might give it a go. Only slight issue is that it's broadcast by iTV and their catch up app is an absolute shoot show.

Yes, have a look at the BTCC. You won’t regret it!

And yes, the ITV catch up thing is a bit rubbish. I would recommend going to a circuit to watch live. The atmosphere, noise, sense of speed, etc is so much better than watching on TV. If you are in Surrey, Brands Hatch in Kent and Thuxton in Hampshire are easy to get to…

I use a recorder, tape (yeah right) the whole event & then zap through it, to watch the BTCC races & then go back later to watch some of the others, I drop most of the waffle between races.

OP here! :hello:

I actually currently prefer BTCC (plus support package) and Formula E to Formula 1, although F1 was where I started my fandom, way back in 1982. What goes round comes around I guess.

Have lost interest in rallying and sportscars at the moment, the former because they've sanitized it too far IMHO, and the latter - well we'll see what the new Hypercar era brings.

Historic racing also floats my boat.

I haven't been able to get into Formula E. Too many street circuits and odd Super Mario rules for my liking. "Vote to give your favourite driver extra power!", "Drive over the hotspot for a speed boost!". Natch.

They've done away with the fan boost this year. ;)

The fact that it is effectively a street circuit championship is part of what makes it appeal to me - albeit some street circuits are, admittedly, far better than others. You should see these around the full Monaco GP circuit - processional it ain't, because the cars are small enough to be able to run two abreast all the way up the hill to Ste Devote.

And the Attack Mode is much like DRS in F1, although with limited use, it is much more tactical. It's more like the overtake boost you used to get in the old Formula Palmer Audi.

I'm still struggling with Formula-E as well, TBH not watched it for a while, didn't like that I wasn't able to work out who was who, but maybe that's because I wasn't watching it enough.

Glad they have got rid of Fan Boost, but they need to look at the positioning of the 'Boost' always seemed to me that they had to go way offline to achieve it & by doing that they lost the advantage. I think it should be the other way around, the 'Boost' should be on the racing line & if they don't move out of the way & run over it they lose power if they've had their allocation.

I don't like formula E , I don't like BTC,cars are too black it's like watching racing on a dismal wet day even when it's sunny . I've gone off Moto GP, it used to be good with Steve Parish and the Ausie chap . I like historic car racing but there isn't much of that . I watch Channel 4 for the F1 but I think they should employ a few more Red Bull staff as I think it is too biased towards almost being impartial !
