I find myself listening to Spotify a lot more than any radio station now. Some of the playlists are very much in keeping with what I want to listen to. e.g. currently it's the Punk mix. Undertones, Clash, Jam, Stranglers, Blondie, Motors, Ramones, Buzzcocks, Ruts, Skids, Pistols, Sham 69 etc....

90%+ of our music consumption is via Spotify Premium.

Completely changed the way we access music. Previously we were album listeners via CD or FLAC copies which got really boring tbh unless we were prepared to shell out heaps of money for new tunes, which we weren't.

Now we listen to the heaps of playlists that I curate from Release Radar and Discover Weekly (derived from personal taste algorithms) as well as a cruise through other members or Spotify's own playlists.

Broadened our horizons hugely ie last year we listened to in excess of 2000 different artists.

Dead cheap to boot.

Spotify is fantastic and I use it lot, the only criticism I have is, if you don't actively look for different styles of music it won't play any for you, now that can be a good or bad thing. but it is brilliant at deciphering your likes and has enabled me to find some fantastic stuff.

One of the (very) few we actually enjoy.

Same; only one of the daytime hosts I could ever tolerate tbh. I'm still convinced that Steve Wright and the insufferably inane, luke-warm dross he leaks onto the airwaves is part of a conspiracy to increase the suicide rate amongst the target demographic..

Haven't listened to R2 (or any radio as it happens, although this is amongst the worst) for decades as, much like all other mass culture it's offensive in its bland conformity...

I do similar, but using the Apple Music app, just pick a playlist and listen to that, I find the vast majority of radio stations annoying after a while these days, but will have planet rock on, Radio X isn’t bad either

What I do when on long journeys is to listen to regional radio stations, much more interesting tbh. Esp Reggae from Leicester or country bumpkins from new forest! Why they cannot put these characters on R2 I don't know. Its a celeb conspiracy imho.

Also the guests they put on are within 2 minutes trying to sell something - an album, book, film etc.

If they paid for that airtime the license fee would be halved!

Radio being on is an increasing source of tension between HID and me. She requires background noise. I can enjoy my own company.
If it's good I will stop and listen. Not let it piddle on in the background.

Same with TV, I will turn on for a programme and do something else when it's over. Not just watch the colour and drivel that is falling out the front of the box.
Managed to survive >45 years. Each one a triumph of determination over common sense. Source of constant surprise that two pig headed people have lasted this long together.

Even one of our local stations The Bay (desperately naff imo but seemingly popular)
A radio geek copy? as The Bay was gobbled up by Global and has been Heart (North Lancashire and Cumbria) since 6am Monday 5 March 2018.

Does that level of nerdyness require a beige anorak and bobble hat?
Not really. Just quoting Google - what happened to The Bay. The sad thing is local radio is no more in vast parts of the country with the BBC retracting and Global and Heart buying up local stations to expand Capital, Heart, Greatest Hits Radio etc. It's claimed that their is now more choice than ever, but at the expense of any local information.
