As its a race,
stage 1 is the ITT https://www.strava.com/routes/10380702
stage 2 is for the climbers https://www.strava.com/routes/10415509
stage 3 is the sprint https://www.strava.com/routes/10190969

Is the Cowes ferry is back and operational (highly unlikely) then this will be stage 2 https://www.strava.com/routes/9571770

If I'd have known other elemnt users were coming I'd have done them in ridewithgps to get turn by turn directions

Cheers Paul, I'll have a go later.

Cheers Paul, I'll have a go later.

I'll also have a stage 3 reserve route which will be more direct back to Brockenhurst, about 7 or 8 miles

I've just noticed that there is a Cowes to Newport cycleway, a google image search shows it is tarmac, so would people prefer to use this rather than the main road from Cowes to Newport? The road will be faster, the cycleway will be devoid of cars, but may contain pedestrians and dogs etc..

I expect the cycleway will be more scenic as is runs along the side of the river Medina

I've also checked out https://roadworks.org/ and there is nothing major happening that will affect us. There are two overnight road closures for carriageway repairs, I guess there could be rough roads in those bits. One is the last stretch before we get back to the ferry and the other bit is on the climb to Blackgang. The is a bridge repair with a closed road, but pedestrians and dismounted cyclists are allowed through. This planning stuff is hard work!

Hi Paul, aren't we slightly time constrained ?arrive 10.30 leave at 5pm maybe 4.30 to get on board. 15mph 4hrs+ moving with 30-45mins for stops

Maybe just stick to the road. Cycle paths are often covered in glass or badly maintained by comparison.

Ok, stick with the road. Last time they let us on with 2 minutes to spare. We will arrive at 10:40, the return crossing is 5:05 which gives us 5 hours keeping some time in the bank, 65 miles @ 15mph makes it just over 4 hours cycling, so about an hour for stops. There is a Costa on the Ferry for drinks and snacks, so only a stop for lunch somewhere to worry about.

If time gets the better of us, we can skip the Needles which saves about 3 miles (10 - 12 minutes), there are also shortcuts through Freshwater which can drop another 3 miles off

I've just been mapping the route. I see what you mean about the military path along the coast. Could be a test if the wind is strong.

Is it straightforward to do so? Happy to have a go
