By the logic of some then Audax UK or a sportive organiser should give anyone over 55 a medical before they are allowed to enter. Imagine the outrage on here if that was the case.

The contract you enter into when joining a gym will bear zero resemblance to signing up for an audax or sportive, beyond both being words on a bit of paper.

So(I hate it when people begin a sentence with 'so'):giggle:.i've been down to the council gym' to have a set to with them! Ha!only joking.:okay: I approached the assistant, asking why they hadn't phoned me back. It turns out they only look at the book which contains the names of those referred for a 'physical/post op'/over 54's assessment' when they visit the gym' in question. The person or people doing this assessing are based at the larger leisure centre in Accrington. I was told that i could either go and see them before 4 pm today,or wait till they come to the gym' in question which will be this coming Monday. Not being one to rush these things:whistle: i chose to wait till they come to me rather than me go to them. So hopefully they'll look in the book on Monday, see my contact details and contact me. I wonder why they have this book with names in and why they don't have the names and details online instead. It seems a little outdated to me. Ah well, let's just hope they do get back to me.

Now following up with them yourself wasn't too hard was it after all

Yes,but they didn't tell me about this assessment team only looking at this book when they visit the smaller leisure centre. If they had i wouldn't have 'kicked off' so much. And i still say that having it down in a book is a bit outdated.
Because you have each and every aspect of your life, finances, records fully computerised in electronic form and backed up yourself presumably?

Sometimes a simple paper format is better / easier surely

My question is why not just e-mail them and say 'We've someone here who needs assessing'. That'd be better than writing it down then waiting 5 days for them to see it in a book.

Why does it matter if they are only there some of the time anyhow - just tell them then. Could you not book in for the assessment on Monday, although presumably you told them you are available

I asked the receptionist if they'll be looking at the book then contacting me the same day. She wasn't too sure. Hopefully they'll look at it early Monday then phone me soon enough so i can go and be assessed the same day. Hey you never know, they might tell me yet that i'm not fit enough to join their gym.

Well i had my assessment yesterday. It took a while to track down the one doing this assessing,as he's been phoning me while i've been out cycling,so it's hard to hear my phone and when i've been to the gym to track him down i've been told 'his car's outside, but i think he's gone for some food'.Anyway, he did his assessing yesterday after i finally found him. All he asked was why i wanted to join the gym, which was a bit like a job interview question but there you go and he asked how my operation might affect me in the gym,to which i explained 'no more than other operations have affected me in the past'. So i'm going to sign up to the £30 for 3 months scheme on his advice as 'it's cheaper',though i can't officially use the sauna/steam room, yet he did say i might be able to use it at a reduced rate, until i sign up for the £27.50 monthly scheme after the 3 months are up. He asked me to bring a list of my medication to the signing up (Why i don't know,as how would a gym assistant know about medication and its affects?) and get this.....He told me to bring my reading glasses:ohmy:, so i can 'read and sign the contract'. Patronising or what?! Ah well i suppose he didn't mention an ear trumpet or a zimmer frame so i should be grateful for that.

Well done old man, 3 months should be plenty of time to see if you want to carry on or give it up.

He may not know about the side effects, but with so many with similar names they'll have the correct ones on record. Including how often they're taken.
