£30 for 3 months seems a great deal. £27.50 a month after is a joke, the gym industry is in a right flux, I pay £19.95 to an independent gym but only because it's on the canal in beautiful converted warehouse, I could pay a tenner in a place with better facilities. Anyway..........in 3 months you can change your body shape entirely but be sure to get a free session before your paid for time starts, because your body will hurt badly for a week or so afterwards and you'll need recovery time.

Still can't remember who said that or where I read/heard it but it's the best advice I've ever taken in.:okay:

Yes,i'll do the £30 for 3 months then see how i feel about the place. I don't think i'll be hurting that much as i don't intend to lift heavy weights and you have to remember that i was a window cleaner for 14 or so years and that's one of the hardest most physical jobs you can do!
I know £27.50 sounds a fair bit,but you have to remember you get the use of a swimming pool and a sauna as well. Whereas the private gym nearby is only £7.50 a month less and there isn't a pool or a sauna. I think those sauna's must be quite expensive to run as if you pay on the door it's something like £7. I know of some who pay around £40 a month at a hotel's gym about 2 miles from here. That has a sauna and a pool, but the pool's not as big as the council run one here. Besides i've heard it's full of poseurs.

I still can't get over that reading glasses bit. I have the note here that says' 'Don't forget to bring reading glasses.'!! (Yes underlined and with two exclamation marks as well!) If it'd said 'Don't forget to bring any reading glasses required' it wouldn't have sounded so patronising! I still think they are shall we say institutionally age discriminatory. Meaning they may not know it or think they are,but they do discriminate against older people. Anyway ,i'll see how it goes after the 3 months. If they say stuff like 'Don't go lifting those heavy weights dear, you might put your back out' or 'Do you want to wear some arm bands(when swimming)so you'll feel safer'?, then i'll know they definitely are!

£27.50 is very reasonable if that includes a good modern gym, classes and decent pool

It is unlikely that any of the staff will take any notice of you unless you're a tw@t :okay:

Just make sure you take a sweat towel into the gym to wipe down equipment after use. Mingers don't xx(

£27.50 is for the use of 3 gyms, not just the one. I've just got back from my first session. It was ok,i quite enjoyed it,though some of those machines are a bit hard to understand at first. On about sweat,i noticed all the 'muscle men' were sweating like Jimmy Saville in a morgue, but little ol' me hardly perspired a drop.

Eugh. Can’t edit the quote on my phone for some reason.

But nobody is likely to comment on what you’re doing at the gym. Everybody is there for their own reasons and to do their own thing. Not to go around patronising people.

Good thing to do rather than worry about “poseurs”

This. Plus the whole "mirrors are for posers" thing is a load of nonsense. Being able to see your position when stretching or lifting is really important.

Indeed it can be easy to find the easy way to do stuff especially with free weights so a mirror can be handy to keep an eye on yourself so you dont cheat or do yourself an injury .

Anyway, back on topic. I didn't ache this morning like i thought i might've done. I think muscle strength stays with you for years once you've built it up. I remember the old bloke, about 85,in the old folks home i worked in 30 years ago. He had quite well defined arm and shoulder muscles. I asked him what kind of work he'd done, thinking he'd have done hard labour through his life. He told me he'd been a solicitor's clerk but was a keen amateur boxer in the 1930's. He said he hadn't lifted any weights in 50 years!
