I can think of seven filling stations within a couple of kilometres of here. All bar one are empty and the remaining one still had a long queue when I cycled past on my way home from work this evening. Do you really think Sadiq Khan is to blame? Or maybe it’s my Tory MP? Or has the People’s Republic of Croydon decided en masse to stick it to the man by overdosing on fossil fuels? I think it’s more likely that demand has temporarily outstripped supply.

I remain loftily unconcerned since my quarter tank should last me another couple of weeks at least.
Of course I`m not blaming Khan or your MP. But the rollercoaster started in the South, and in general, remains there. I too have a 3/4 full tank and in my area there are no issues at all.|That was my point. It has been blown out of aall proportion and the people of certain areas have gone into panic mode....the result is the media jumping all over it making the problem bigger than it really is and causing further panic buying.

the posh in parts town of Yarm
Off topic…

Some years ago I attended a residential training course in Stockton and we were encouraged by the organisers to spend our Tuesday night in Yarm. It was entertaining and enlightening but posh is not a word that immediately springs to mind. My London accent was a double edged sword.

Carry on…

In which case I don’t understand why you said it was caused by people (who?) trying to give the government a bloody nose. What have I missed?

As a general point, many people, especially if they know what I do for a living, are keen to tell me the papers are full of shite.
Yet those same people, when it suits, are quick to slag off the press for their misuse of power.

Those two phrases are not mutually exclusive.

Those with power often misuse it to spread shite, or spread shite to gain more power.

All I am doing is try to fathom how the situation got so bad when there is fuel to be had, the fuel companies said there is fuel and if we carry on as normal there would be no issues. The fact that it got like this isn`t just down to a lack of tanker drivers surely! We managed perfectly well until this story broke.
I am trying to put a different perspective on it and it is just opinion which, after all, is why we post here. Sorry if it causes offence.

Some years ago is the key phrase, Yarm is currently on trend, its popularity will wane if teesside airport takes off - oh hang on I can see a flaw in my argument... Oh and to be honest a st'enders accent will always cause merriment Oop North just like my Scouse accent south of Chester (and some in Chester pick up their bows until I remind them I'm not Welsh )

It's the price gouging I find unacceptable. Those of us on the Left are justified I feel in demanding fuel and energy be treated as strategic items and subject to price controls to stop this outrageous thieving in plain sight.

It is all rather 'new money' so not in the best possible taste, but Yarm remains one of the few places in the North East where you will routinely see Bentleys, Porsches, and the like.

There's even a Bang and Olufsen shop, who - apart from a footballer or a drug dealer - can afford one of their stereos?

This is definitely a case of every day's a school day.

I would never have thought of Yarm as posh, although to be fair I've only ever been to the Tetley Tea factory at Eaglescliffe for work.

Funny, isn't it? On one hand the media have no effect on voting intentions, but on the other a couple of stories about shortages are enough to cause and sustain petrol panic.

Is big media influential or not?
I can't remember exactly when, but years ago after a general election didn't The Sun have a headline proclaiming, 'it was The Sun what won it.'?
