Course not..

Unless it was a real emergency..

I'm surprised to hear that ambulances are driving around looking for fuel though

I guess I naïvely thought that the emergency services would have their own exclusive to them fuel depots .

Even be allowed to use lower duty diesel like us farmers can.

I mean I know if they're out on a long call they may well use more than a tanks worth, but shouldn't there be a network of refuelling stations so they never need to be driving round trying to refuel, during what should be urgent call out time .??
They’ll just have a fuel card so they can fill up wherever they start running low, some of the ambulances cover huge areas, for example Yorkshire have hospital contacts for A&E at James Cook in Middlesbrough to both hospitals in Lancaster, and over to Derbyshire in the South, I heard it from a staff member that North East Ambulance Service were looking at taking over cover in to North Yorkshire, so an Ambulance at Hebburn or Sunderland could be covering Selby, which is in North Yorkshire, but borders East, West & South Yorkshire a few miles above the M62 and about 120 miles from base

I wonder if average speed on motorways is lower as people conserve fuel.
Certainly over the weekend, there were far fewer of the usual Range Rover/BMW/Audi types flying along in excess of the speed limit on the A14. I had the cruise control set at 70mph and seemed to be doing a lot more overtaking than normal.

Edited to add - also noted this afternoon that the roads seemed quieter than normal whan I was out for a ride. The only queue was caused by traffic trying to access the cheapest fuel station in Ipswich.

'About 100'? Seriously?

Not that any more are needed. None are needed. Once the idiots' cars are all full, that'll be that. There's only so much people can buy, and the UK - unless the govt and all the oil companies are telling porkies - is awash with the stuff. But the idea that the Guardian's big headline story of the day revolves around the possible deployment of 100 squaddies....? Give me strength...

When you say headline of the day do you mean the paper edition?

The online editions of newspapers (news media) are updated many times a day.

Anyway, I doubt we will see the army in the streets - and service stations. I reckon it's just soundbite from the government to make it seem as if they are concerned and doing something about it.

If I drive my van to an empty forecourt and buy a tank of diesel, I think I'm filling up. If I do the same at a busy garage and wait in line with another thirty cars, I'm "panic buying". What's the difference?

And how many have a HGV class 1 plus ADR, and know how to drive a fuel tanker and make a delivery, none I’ll wager, even the MOD will get their fuel delivered from a civilian tanker, meanwhile the BBC are reiterating the lack of fuel showing a massive queue of angry drivers, then straight to a piece about a lack of bus drivers, so now you’ve no fuel for your car, you can’t get a bus to work, they really are screwing with peoples heads, this is pure media panic mongering, these news outlets really are a piece of work, I wonder whats been going on in the background while we’re all distracted.

Why hasn't the government taken the opportunity to tell people to work from home ?
