Local station has modest queues at 5.20 this afternoon.
Despite the madness, i resisted the urge, my tank is just over half full, should do best part of another week.

But, its easy to be sanctimonious as you pass the queues, had i not by pure chance nearly filled the car 2 days before it all kicked off....id have HAD to join those queues.

One solution to the lorry driver shortage, not just here but all around Europe, may be transporting frieght by rail......oh hang on we used to do that!!!

If you exclude coal, which for obvious reasons has fallen, in terms of tonne km, freight moved by rail is 40% greater than it was 40 years ago...

Im with MJR on thst one. If the great British piblic ever deserved a good finger wagging it was tight the hell now.

Not that anyone will listen, because they'll all be stuck in petrol queue listening to Mantovani on the stereo, or whatever youngsters are into these days.

From a media management point of view, Eustice will know - or will have been told - he will only get limited space in a BBC story which will inevitably have other contributors.

Thus he is best advised to get his main message over first to make sure it appears.

It's possible he went on to administer the ticking off you desire, but it was cut on the basis the BBC hack thought, correctly, it didn't add a lot to the story.

I would prioritise his quotes in that way, depending on the word count required.

A general 'go greener' message can be published anytime, but remarks about tankers and the shortage are time critical.

I wonder if average speed on motorways is lower as people conserve fuel.
I drive an 11 mile section if the A1M every workday....lane 4 might be quieter now you mention it but the rest of the lanes seem pretty normal (i use my commute to relax, 60 mph ish, lane 1 is my usual station, you see it all happening from there )

Also in 'jokes' so it'll likely be deleted twice for being too 'political'

I recall that recently it was announced that there is no longer any wagonload freight operated in the UK: everything is apparently carried in block trains between purpose built terminals. This makes a sort of economic sense, but probably wouldn't be very helpful right now.

But which of these messages is the farking Environment Secretary in charge of spreading? And which should he leave to the Energy Secretary or the Energy Minister (yes, we have both)?

He's happy to lecture people "buying petrol when they don't need it" but apparently not people burning petrol when they don't need to.
