Was looking on the Skipton comm unity Facebook board. A women claiming to be 20 weeks pregnant says in her car overnight as her car was in a ditch. Police visited and told her to stay put. So many helpful responses and people willing to go out. However, she was lying. She was in a Travelodge all night. So many hundreds of offers to help and also people questioning her who then got slated for their comment. Nasty piece of work I felt. Risking others for her devious needs. Quite a uproar on it. Anyhow...

The issue isn't your 4x4 getting stuck, it's the dozy beggar in a fwd hatch who crawls down hill and acts all surprised and stuck when a boot-full of revs in 1st gear results in it stopping on the up hill following. Once enough of these are stopped not even a tracked vehicle will get you up the road, but at least with tracks you could cut across country.
Very apt time for me to read your post as I see a white van go up the hill... 10 seconds later I see it going back down in reverse!

I'm surprised by the lack of horror stories from the fantasists on here...
How "doubting Thomas" of you! :unsure:Anyway,i've just been out and heard a whimpering noise. As i got closer i saw a tiny hand and a paw sticking out of the snow. I ran back into my flat and grabbed a spade. Rushing outside i single handedly dug out and saved from certain death a young child and a puppy!:angel:

I used to drive in to work, which was high in the pennines, from Durham City. The worst winter's day I remember there were two cars on the road. Me in my Vauxhall Chevette, rwd and snow tyres on the back axle, and an MGB. Nobody else on the road and no issues on deep snow. I got to work, on time, and not one other person had arrived by car. Even though some of them lived a lot closer than me.
The next day the snow had been mostly cleared and I was stuck in traffic on a slight hill, due to a moron in a 4x4 who had stuck. Three hours late, I arrived at work. It's not the road, or the vehicle, it's the driver.
Here in the UK, there are not enough bad weather days so most people don't know how to drive in poor road conditions when we do have bad weather.

This is the 6' fence in our garden

I'm glad I'm not at home...

Cauld blaws the wind frae east to west,
The drift is driving sairly;
Sae loud and shrill’s I hear the blast,
I’m sure it’s winter fairly.

Up in the morning’s no for me,
Up in the morning early;
When a’ the hills are cover’d wi’ snaw,
I’m sure its winter fairly.

The birds sit chittering in the thorn,
A’ day they fare but sparely;
And lang’s the night frae e’en to morn,
I’m sure it’s winter fairly.

Up in the morning’s no for me,
Up in the morning early;
When a’ the hills are cover’d wi’ snaw,
I’m sure its winter fairly.

My dogs couldn't work out how to have a shite this morning as the snow was up to their arses
Shitting should now be easier

Mrs SJ was panicking that we might run out of essential supplies this morning so she dispatched me to the local Tescos convenience shop to get what I could. I managed to pick up a bottle of whisky, five easter eggs and forty cigarettes. I was well pleased with myself.

She's got the hump over something else now, she's hardly spoken to me since I got back.

It took me 20 minutes longer than usual for my commute to work this morning at 0300hrs. One of the main arterial routes to/from Edinburgh (A701) was heavily covered in snow. More than enough for my toes to go into with each crank rotation. I’m glad I bought those Northwave winter boots a few weeks ago now.
:notworthy:
Well done for getting in!
Hope you had a hip flask with an emergency dram just in case...

We're slap bang in the middle of the South West red weather warning. Snowing heavily with strong wind and meant to continue for the next 36 hours.

Been down here for twelve years and never seen snow settle on the beach before (although few miles inland up on Exmoor they often get snowed in, so goodness know what it will be like up there this time round).
